Effects Of Supervised Exercise Training On Health-Related Physical Fitness In Community Dwellers Aged Over 50 Years, Chun-Yi Lee, Tieh-Cheng Fu, Jong-Shyan Wang, Chih-Chin Hsu

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

Effects of supervised aerobic exercise training on physical fitness in aging community residents were highlighted in the study. 76 community-dwellers aged > 50 years who completed an 8-week cohort study were included. All participants were instructed to walk ≥ 8000 steps per day (stp/d) and wore a smart watch to record the every-day step amount. The average number of everyday step amount in a week was used as the mean walking steps per day in a week. Among them, 39 participants were randomized to the supervised exercise training (SET) and 37 were allocated to the home exercise training (HET) groups. …

Associations Between Physical Fitness And Health-Related Quality Of Life Of Nurses, Chia-Huei Lin, Li-Chi Chiang, Wen-Chii Tzeng, Liang-Cheng Chen, Shin-Tsu Chang, Shang-Lin Chiang Dec 2014

Associations Between Physical Fitness And Health-Related Quality Of Life Of Nurses, Chia-Huei Lin, Li-Chi Chiang, Wen-Chii Tzeng, Liang-Cheng Chen, Shin-Tsu Chang, Shang-Lin Chiang

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

Background: Little is known regarding health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and its association with physical fitness among nurses. Purpose: To investigate whether physical fitness was associated with HRQOL among nurses. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 232 volunteer nurses who were 31 years of age and free of disease-related disability. Physical fitness was assessed using a cws28 health-related physical fitness system which measured body composition (BMI and percentage body fat), balance, flexibility, muscle strength, muscular endurance, and cardiorespiratory fitness. SF-36®, a structured self-reporting questionnaire, was used to evaluate HRQOL. The association between physical fitness and HRQOL (independent of potential …

Effects Of Occupation On Fitness In Taiwan Adults, Ching-Fang Hu, Tieh-Cheng Fu, Cheng-Hsiu Lai, Shih-Wei Chou, Alice M. K. Wang, Chia-Lin Shu Dec 2008

Effects Of Occupation On Fitness In Taiwan Adults, Ching-Fang Hu, Tieh-Cheng Fu, Cheng-Hsiu Lai, Shih-Wei Chou, Alice M. K. Wang, Chia-Lin Shu

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

Physical fitness is the state of health measured by body composition, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and cardiopulmonary endurance. Occupational difference in physical fitness results in differing physical demands of working environments. This study compared occupational fitness in 32,950 Taiwan adults aging from 18 to 65 years. Volunteers were classified by gender, age and occupation. The purpose of this study was to provide information for physical fitness training.Statistical differences among various occupations were found by this research. Students, and educational workers had the lowest body mass index as well as the best flexibility and endurance in all analyzed subjects. Male …

The Relationship Of Quality Of Life And Peak (The Symbol Is Abbreviated)O2 In Patients Short-Term After Coronary Artery Bypass Graft, Chen-Liang Chou, Chia-Ling Chang, Su-Ying Hung, Yu-Chen Chai, Chen-Ming Chiu, Tcho-Jen Liu, Shian-Ting Lai

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

The purpose of this study was to investigate the quality of life and physical fitness in patients after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG). We used WHOQOL-BREF (Taiwan) to evaluate the quality of life, and (The symbol is abbreviated) O(subscript 2peak) to evaluate physical fitness. We also collected the data of pre-operative left ventricle cardiac ejection fraction and analyzed the correlation within the data. There were 33 male post-CABG patients enrolled in this study. Each patient received a cardiopulmonary exercise stress test 3~4 weeks after the surgery. Each of them completed the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire (Taiwan version). We applied Pearson's correlation coefficient to …

Effects Of Residence On Physical Fitness Among Adults In Taiwan, Jih-Rong Lin, Yin-Chou Lin, Cheng-Hsiu Lai, Chia-Hua Kuo, Shih-Wei Chou, Alice M. K. Wong Dec 2007

Effects Of Residence On Physical Fitness Among Adults In Taiwan, Jih-Rong Lin, Yin-Chou Lin, Cheng-Hsiu Lai, Chia-Hua Kuo, Shih-Wei Chou, Alice M. K. Wong

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

Health-related physical fitness can be assessed using four principal attributes: body composition; muscular strength and endurance; flexibility; and cardiorespiratory endurance. Factors such as the lifestyle behaviors or dietetic habits can affect physical fitness. The aim of this study is to investigate the differences in physical fitness among adults residing in different areas of Taiwan. The study was conducted between April and November 2002. In total, 19638 subjects aged 18-65 years were recruited and divided into the following three groups: (1) urban group (subjects living in Taipei and Kaohsiung City); (2) rural group (subjects living in Yunlin County, Chiayi County, Chiayi …

Quality Of Life And Peak Oxygen Consumption In Patients With Congestive Heart Failure, Chen-Liang Chou, Chia-Ling Chang, Chantelle Wu, Su-Ying Hung, Shun-Ping Chen, Tcho-Jen Liu Dec 2007

Quality Of Life And Peak Oxygen Consumption In Patients With Congestive Heart Failure, Chen-Liang Chou, Chia-Ling Chang, Chantelle Wu, Su-Ying Hung, Shun-Ping Chen, Tcho-Jen Liu

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

Although the physical consequences of congestive heart failure are well known, its effects on patient well-being, severity of exercise intolerance, and quality of life are largely unknown. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of physical fitness (as measured by O2 peak), quality of life (as measured with the WHOQOL-BREF in Taiwan), and severity of left ventricle dysfunction (as measured by left ventricle ejection fraction) in patients with congestive heart failure.Twenty patients were enrolled in this study, but only 11 had completed the ”WHOQOL-BREF”. We used the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS14.0) for statistical analysis. The …

The Effects Of Education Level On Physical Fitness Among Middle-Aged Adults In Taiwan, Shih-Wei Chou, Yin-Chou Lin, Chi-Te Li, Alice M. K. Wong Dec 2004

The Effects Of Education Level On Physical Fitness Among Middle-Aged Adults In Taiwan, Shih-Wei Chou, Yin-Chou Lin, Chi-Te Li, Alice M. K. Wong

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

Health-related physical fitness can be assessed with four main attributes: body composition, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and cardiorespiratory endurance. Regular exercise is thought to improve physical fitness, and objective physical fitness assessment and appropriate exercise prescriptions may help unfit individuals to become fit. Assessment of physical fitness among the general population can aid the understanding of general levels of physical fitness in the community, promote healthy habits, and reduce the burden of chronic illness caused by physical inactivity. A total of 13,187 healthy adult Taiwanese citizens between 40 and 65 years of age were enrolled in this study between …
