Rehabilitation Practice and Science

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most common entrapment neuropathy, caused by the compression of the median nerve in the carpal tunnel over the wrist. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate how different wrist positions change median nerve image and their corresponding results of nerve conduction study (NCS). In this study, we investigated 40 normal wrists and 32 wrists with CTS. In both groups, subjects were randomly assigned to wear a splint, and the wrist was placed at 0, 15, 30 and 45 degrees of extension. Ultrasonography was performed before splinting, immediately after splinting and repeated again 2, …

Introduction: Recurrent hemoarthrosis leads to synovitis, bone erosion, and subsequent hemoarthropathy in hemophilia. Few clinical trials have focused on the efficacy and adverse effects of nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), specifically cyclooxygenase-2-selective NSAIDs, in treating hemoarthropathy in patients with hemophilia. This study investigated the effect and safety of celecoxib in treating hemophilic arthropathy with synovitis. Materials and method: A total of 15 patients with hemophilic arthropathy were prescribed 200 mg of celecoxib twice per day for 30 days. Out come measurements regarding before and after treatment, joint range of motion, pain score (visual analogue scale), bleeding frequency, synovial thickness measured using …

The main purpose of the diagnostic ultrasound examination for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is to compensate for the inadequacies of physical examinations and nerve conduction studies and thereby reduce the false negative rate of CTS diagnosis. The cross-sectional area of the median nerve, swelling ratio, flattening ratio, and palmar bowing of the flexor retinaculum have been reported as the diagnostic criteria for CTS in ultrasonographic examinations. In addition, Doppler ultrasound has been applied to measure the blood flow of the median nerve, and dynamic ultrasound combined with a cross-correlation algorithm has been developed to measure the gliding of the median …
