Calibration And Optimization Of 3d Digital Breast Tomosynthesis Guided Near Infrared Spectral Tomography, Kelly E. Michaelsen, Venkataramanan Krishnaswamy, Linxi Shi, Srinivasan Vedantham, Steven Poplack, Andrew Karellas, Brian Pogue, Keith Paulsen

Dartmouth Scholarship

Calibration of a three-dimensional multimodal digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) x-ray and non-fiber based near infrared spectral tomography (NIRST) system is challenging but essential for clinical studies. Phantom imaging results yielded linear contrast recovery of total hemoglobin (HbT) concentration for cylindrical inclusions of 15 mm, 10 mm and 7 mm with a 3.5% decrease in the HbT estimate for each 1 cm increase in inclusion depth. A clinical exam of a patient's breast containing both benign and malignant lesions was successfully imaged, with greater HbT was found in the malignancy relative to the benign abnormality and fibroglandular regions (11 μM vs. …

Targeted Ultrasound Of An Indeterminate Breast Lesion On Mammography: When Does It Influence Management?, Saba Sohail, Imrana Masroor, Shaista Afzal Aug 2015

Targeted Ultrasound Of An Indeterminate Breast Lesion On Mammography: When Does It Influence Management?, Saba Sohail, Imrana Masroor, Shaista Afzal

Department of Radiology

Objective: To determine the change over mammographic diagnosis, BI-RADS category and management following targeted ultrasound of an indeterminate lesion seen on mammography and associated factors, if any.
Study design: Descriptive, analytical study.
Place and duration of study: Radiology Department, The Aga Khan University Hospital and Clifton Medical Services, Karachi, from April 2010 to May 2011.
Methodology: Patients referred for targeted breast ultrasound following X-ray mammography were selected regardless of age. Targeted Ultrasound (TUS) was defined as a limited ultrasound of a specific lesion or breast part as indicated by the referring source. Comparison was made between the post mammography and …

Image Enhancement Of Cancerous Tissue In Mammography Images, Richard Thomas Richardson Apr 2015

Image Enhancement Of Cancerous Tissue In Mammography Images, Richard Thomas Richardson

CCE Theses and Dissertations

This research presents a framework for enhancing and analyzing time-sequenced mammographic images for detection of cancerous tissue, specifically designed to assist radiologists and physicians with the detection of breast cancer. By using computer aided diagnosis (CAD) systems as a tool to help in the detection of breast cancer in computed tomography (CT) mammography images, previous CT mammography images will enhance the interpretation of the next series of images. The first stage of this dissertation applies image subtraction to images from the same patient over time. Image types are defined as temporal subtraction, dual-energy subtraction, and Digital Database for Screening Mammography …
