Obesity is a growing health concern that is linked to the development of chronically debilitating physical and mental illnesses. Obesity is a result of a long-term positive imbalance between energy intake and energy expenditure. Evidence has shown more than one third of U.S. adults suffer from obesity. Primary care providers in the United States report being overburdened in treating obesity, citing a lack of time, structured approach, and structured resources. Obesity is a growing problem and has shown no signs of improvement over the past decade, with an estimated one in five children between the ages of six and seventeen are overweight. This problem is even more prevalent in ethnic minorities and socioeconomically disadvantaged families. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the EBMM program nutrition module on 4th and 5th grade student’s food choices.
