Novel Serum Biomarkers For Lung Cancer Early Diagnosis And Clinical Outcome, Fanmao Zhang
Novel Serum Biomarkers For Lung Cancer Early Diagnosis And Clinical Outcome, Fanmao Zhang
Dissertations & Theses (Open Access)
The five-year survival rate for all stages of lung cancer combined is only 17%, which has changed little over the past 40 years. Despite the tremendous efforts made, serum biomarkers with clinical utility for lung cancer early detection and clinical outcome prediction are still lacking. Metabolic alterations have been recognized as an emerging hallmark of cancer. We aimed to investigate the metabolic changes associated with lung cancer and to identify novel clinically applicable serum biomarkers for lung cancer early diagnosis and clinical outcome.
Serum metabolites are potential biomarkers for lung cancer early detection. We first performed global metabolomic profiling followed …

Oxidative stress has been implicated in aging and age-related diseases. Using three distinct studies, this dissertation examines associations between lifestyle factors and oxidative stress, and their effects on advanced glycation end products, telomere length, and type II diabetes. Carboxymethyl-lysine (CML), an advanced glycation end-product, has been linked to oxidative stress, cardiovascular and other age-related diseases. The first study investigates the association between sleep disordered breathing (SDB), a source of oxidative stress, and CML. 1002 participants with sleep data from the Cardiovascular Health Study (CHS) were analyzed. SDB was not significantly associated with CML, but after stratification by gender and hemoglobin …
Evaluation Of The Interest In Development And Availability Of The Resting Metabolic Rate Test As A Routine Healthcare Standard, Seth Wayne Parrish
Evaluation Of The Interest In Development And Availability Of The Resting Metabolic Rate Test As A Routine Healthcare Standard, Seth Wayne Parrish
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Introduction: A growing worldwide pandemic exists today that has large implications for the future of healthcare among the nations. Obesity is a growing disease that has multiple
implications for morbidity and mortality including cardiovascular disease, stroke and diabetes. The obese and overweight population plagues nearly 46% of the world's population, and likely is
preventable. We wanted to examine what role metabolic testing could play in prevention.
Methods: A cross-sectional study composed of a 52-question Likert-based scale survey was constructed and distributed to healthcare providers. We hypothesized that there would be a
generally accepted interest in establishing routine metabolic rate testing …
