Peri-Implantitis Incidence And Effect Of Supportive Periodontal Therapy On Outcomes: Retrospective Cohort Study, Michael Ha Jan 2022

Peri-Implantitis Incidence And Effect Of Supportive Periodontal Therapy On Outcomes: Retrospective Cohort Study, Michael Ha

Theses and Dissertations

Purpose: Management of peri-implantitis is becoming an increasing component of dental practice. Dental implants can develop peri-implantitis lesions which occur in a non‐linear and accelerating pattern compared to a gradual periodontitis lesion. It is crucial to diagnose and treat this disease early, or ideally prevent it. Contemporary implants have a rough surface texture which is difficult to properly decontaminate as a crucial component for treatment prognosis. Evidence on the long-term effects of Periodontal implant maintenance therapy (PIMT) on implants is limited. This study aims to investigate the effect of periodontal maintenance on peri-implant tissue health.

Methods: A retrospective chart review …

Influence Of Cad/Cam Materials On Damping Behavior Of Implant-Supported Crown, Charnikan Sukkasam

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

This study was to investigate the damping capacity of implant-supported crowns made from various computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) restorative materials. A titanium implant fixture was embedded in epoxy resin. Crown specimens were divided into three groups: Zirconia (Z), Lithium disilicate (E), and Polymethyl methacrylate (P). Each crown was subdivided into Uncement (Un) and Adhesive resin cement (RC) subgroups (n=5). Specimens were loaded (0-200N). Strain gauges were attached to measure microstrains at crestal and apical levels. Damping capacity was determined based on load-time curves, microstrain-time curves, and time required to reach the maximum load. A two-way ANOVA with Tukey …

The Novel Cyanoacrylate Based Fluoride Varnish, Narongrit Larpbunphol Jan 2022

The Novel Cyanoacrylate Based Fluoride Varnish, Narongrit Larpbunphol

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

The important factors contributing to the effectiveness of fluoride varnish are the amount of fluoride ion release and the retention time of the varnish on the tooth surface. Commercial fluoride varnishes are susceptible to mechanical removal; therefore, patients are informed to avoid eating for a few hours and refrain from tooth brushing for 12–24 h, which results in patient inconvenience. However, the novel cyanoacrylate based fluoride varnish would not have these disadvantages. This study compared the daily fluoride ion release, abrasion resistance to brushing, and toxicity to human gingival fibroblasts (hGFs) between a newly-developed cyanoacrylate based fluoride varnish and Duraphat …

Theses and Dissertations--Clinical and Translational Science

Patient satisfaction and quality of life are integral parts of assessing the quality of oral health care. Current aging population trends suggest a growing need to understand the effects of edentulism on oral health and quality of life. As the proportion of aged Americans expands, there will be an increased need to understand treatment options and patient communication strategies. In addition, as new treatment options and innovative technologies emerge, it will be essential to understand patients' concerns and identify best practices associated with denture treatments' individual fit and function. Advanced denture treatments can now be fabricated using CAD/CAM digital denture …

Effect Of Nanofiller Coating And Loading On Facial Elastomer Physical Properties, Rahmi K. Aulia Aug 2020

Effect Of Nanofiller Coating And Loading On Facial Elastomer Physical Properties, Rahmi K. Aulia

Theses & Dissertations

Current materials used for facial prostheses are far from being desirable, and improved properties with “skin-like” feel are needed. This study evaluates property changes induced by sequential additions of uncoated and hydrophobic-coated nano-SiO2 to polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and compares them with those measured for conventional submicron SiO2-filled materials. Each filler type was sequentially added to vinyl-terminated PDMS at 0%, 0.5%, 5%, 10%, and 15% by weight. Tensile, tear, Durometer hardness, translucency and viscoelastic properties were evaluated, with hardness and translucency also evaluated following 3000 hours of outdoor weathering. Results demonstrated that 15% coated nano-SiO2-filled PDMS materials …

Metal Additive Manufacturing For Fixed Dental Prostheses, Mai El Najjar Jun 2020

Metal Additive Manufacturing For Fixed Dental Prostheses, Mai El Najjar

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

The use of additive manufacturing (AM) in dentistry has gained momentum in recent years. However, high initial costs and uncertainty surrounding the quality of AM products are considered barriers to their use. This research compared dental substructures fabricated by AM versus conventional casting and milling.

Cobalt-chromium alloy rectangular bars and three-unit bridge substructures were fabricated by AM, casting or milling. Bars manufactured by AM exhibited superior flexural strength, shear bond strength of porcelain coating, and Vickers hardness. Bridge substructures fabricated by AM showed similar flexural stiffness to cast, similar flexural loads at failure to milled and cast, and overall accuracy …

Exploring The Use Of Pulsed Erbium Lasers To Retrieve A Zirconia Crown From A Zirconia Implant Abutment, Ahmed Elkharashi

Theses and Dissertations

Removal of zirconia crowns, commonly used as cement-retained implant fixed restorations, can be challenging. Conventional methods of crown removal are time consuming and often leave irreparable damage to the crown, which can be costly to patients and practitioners. This research explored the use of two different types of pulsed erbium lasers, erbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet laser (Er:YAG) and erbium, chromium-doped yttrium, scandium, gallium and garnet (Er,Cr:YSGG), as non-invasive tools to retrieve cemented zirconia crowns from zirconia implant abutments. Times needed to remove the crowns were recorded and analyzed using ANOVA (=0.05). No statistical differences between the debond times of each …

Gene Expression And Immunohistochemistry Analysis Of Xenograft And Allograft In Maxillary Sinus Floor Augmentation, Isaya Kungvarnchaikul

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Quality of bone is an important factor contributing to the success of dental implants. The bone height in maxillary posterior area sometimes is not enough and might pose risks for placing dental implants. Maxillary sinus augmentation with bone substitutes is used for filling and correcting bony defects. This study aims to determine the differences in gene expressions of TNF-alpha, RUNX2, COL1A1, ALP between xenograft (Bio-Oss®) and allograft (SureOss®). Patients who needed two-stage maxillary sinus floor augmentation were included (n=13). Patient who had dental implant at posterior maxilla without bone substitutes was also used in immunohistochemistry analysis (IHC) (n=1). Bone samples …

Effect Of Ultrasonic Treatment On The Transverse Strength Of Relined Denture Base With Autopolymerizing Acrylic Hard Reline Material, Tithiporn Arunwichit

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

This study evaluated the effect of ultrasonic treatment and surface treatments on transverse strength of denture bases which relined with auto-polymerizing acrylic resin. The study groups, ninety heat-polymerized acrylic resins (64×10×2 mm) were divided by three surface treatments: no surface treatment (N), applied MMA for 180 seconds (MM), applied MF-MA for 15 seconds (MF). They were relined with auto-polymerized acrylic resin to create 64×10×3.3 mm specimens. Then, they were divided further by ultrasonic which were no ultrasonic (X), ultrasonic in water (W), ultrasonic in 30% ethanol (E). As a result, all test groups were classified as NX, NW, NE, MMX, …
