Referral Patterns For Pediatric Sports-Related Concussion In One New England Health Care System, Joseph Benert, Amy Haskins Phd, Christina T. Holt, Krystian Bigosinski

Introduction: Patients with concussion may benefit from care provided by professionals from multiple disciplines based on the constellation of symptoms being reported. This study analyzed referral patterns from primary care and sports medicine clinicians for pediatric patients with sports-related concussion in one health care system.

Methods: A retrospective chart review identified referrals placed to physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, optometry, psychology, neuropsychology, audiology, neurology, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, psychiatry, and sports medicine for pediatric patients with sports-related concussion. Alison began receiving ZB and CST at 13 months of age due to gross motor delays: at that age she was only able to sit somewhat rigidly. After the first session, Alison changed` from being very unhappy and seemingly frustrated to being happy and more calm. Within one month of weekly sessions, Alison was able to be on her tummy, began to crawl, became more agile in seated play, was squatting and standing and took her first steps.

There is a gap in medical education training content specifically focused on the care of Sexual and Gender Minority (SGM) people and people with Differences in Sex Development (DSD). Inadequate training contributes to suboptimal health care access, utilization, and experiences among SGM-DSD people. Improving medical education training can be challenging as many clinician educators received sparse instruction themselves in these areas and there are limited teaching resources that expand beyond didactic instruction. Psychiatric disorders are very common in the general pediatric population. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common psychiatric diagnosis in childhood but can mimic and be found comorbidity with other psychiatric disorders. Missed well child appointments are common across the country. In an effort to limit anxiety related to doctor's appointments, social stories were printed and offered to patients in the waiting room.
