Hip fractures can be life-threatening, debilitating, and costly. The odds for hip fracture increases from impact of sideways falls. While turning has been strongly associated with hip fracture & sideways falls, the distinction between the risks for walking-turns as opposed to low-velocity in-place turning is not clear. Parents and/or caregivers of premature infants provide the interaction needed to promote better outcomes for these challenged infants at risk for developmental delays. This descriptive, exploratory study utilized convenience sampling. Inclusion criteria consisted of parents/caregivers who were at least 18 years of age and older with infants born 35 weeks gestation or less and currently in the NICU. Background. Hospitalized older adults are susceptible to adverse events reporting decreased activity, falls and dependence in activities of daily living after hospitalization. Falls incidence is higher among those in the hospital compared to community dwelling older adults. Research has demonstrated the rate of readmission to the hospital for older adults is essentially unchanged at approximately 20% over the last 20 years despite attempts to provide meaningful interventions while patients are in the hospital or once they return home.
