Resuscitation Quality Improvement Mortality Rates, Jordan Priest
Resuscitation Quality Improvement Mortality Rates, Jordan Priest
Dissertations
This paper explores and answers the question: What is the impact of Resuscitation Quality Improvement on survival at discharge rates after suffering an IHCA when compared to every two-year BLS/ACLS training? Articles are explored that identify positive patients’ outcomes when resuscitation training is repetitively learned. The design consists of a BLS/ACLS and RQI evaluation of quarterly survival to discharge rates prior to the initiation of the new RQI program and after the initiation of the new RQI program. The setting of the study is the east region of a midwestern faith-based health care system, that includes four hospitals in one …
Implementing The Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale To Assess Delirium In A Pediatric Icu, Leigh Paridy
Implementing The Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale To Assess Delirium In A Pediatric Icu, Leigh Paridy
Dissertations
Purpose: The purpose of this quality improvement project was to establish early identification of delirium in the intensive care setting to reduce the impact of long-term patient outcomes. Description of project: A retrospective-prospective medical chart review was completed. The retrospective chart review looked at fifty-two patients admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) between October 1, 2020 and December 1, 2020 for patient demographics and State Behavior Scale (SBS) and the Cornell Assessment for Pediatric Delirium (CAPD) charting compliance especially with children with developmental delay and those with a high susceptibility to delirium. The prospective chart review looked at …
Detection Of Breast Cancer In African American Women Using Walk-In Mammography, Munachi Nwosu
Detection Of Breast Cancer In African American Women Using Walk-In Mammography, Munachi Nwosu
Dissertations
Abstract
Problem: Breast cancer is a life-threatening condition, in which the prognosis could potentially worsen with a delay in the detection and commencement of treatment. Scheduling patients for mammograms continues to allow for long wait times that exist in screening mammography. Lower rates of participation in scheduled screening mammograms contributes to the increased rate of advanced breast cancer diagnosis that exit in African American women and threatens their health outcomes. The purpose of this project was to implement walk-in mammography to increase participation for early breast cancer detection.
Methods: An observational descriptive design with a retrospective chart review. A PDSA …
Discovering Hidden Signs And Symptoms Of Heart Failure In The Electronic Health Record Using The Omaha System, Anita Reger
Discovering Hidden Signs And Symptoms Of Heart Failure In The Electronic Health Record Using The Omaha System, Anita Reger
Dissertations
Purpose/Background/Significance: For the past 30 years, heart failure has been in the top 3 readmission diagnoses with patients discharged to community care. This is costly to the healthcare system and negatively impacts the patient’s quality of life. The purpose of this study is to evaluate a community care database to determine if previously under-considered latent variables exist that could provide early detection of heart failure signs and symptoms. Theoretical/Conceptual Framework: The theoretical and conceptual frameworks surrounding this work are the Omaha System and Donabedian’s structure, process, and outcomes theory for healthcare quality improvement supported by Neuman’s Systems Model. The Omaha …
Food Insecure Copd Patients And Healthcare Utilization: A Retrospective Study, Kristine Mendoza
Food Insecure Copd Patients And Healthcare Utilization: A Retrospective Study, Kristine Mendoza
Dissertations
Abstract
Purposes/Aims: Despite advances in the recognition and treatment of high-cost users of health care, the incidence of healthcare utilization remains high. Rates of hospital admissions and emergency room visits among chronic disease like COPD have become a targeted group for health management. COPD patients have multiple and complex health and social needs, but the impact of their unmet food needs is not well understood and warrants further investigation. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationships between COPD food insecure patients and healthcare utilization in San Diego County.
Background/Rationale: Government programs targeting patients with high healthcare costs …
Increasing Adherence Of Pump Integration With Electronic Medical Record Through Simulation, Judi Reeves
Increasing Adherence Of Pump Integration With Electronic Medical Record Through Simulation, Judi Reeves
Dissertations
Problem: Intravenous (IV) medication errors account for one-third of the medication errors made by nurses in the United States. A measure to combat medication errors is the development of IV pump integration where the IV pump is electronically connected to the electronic medical record (EMR). With IV pump integration, the nurse is responsible for turning on the pump, scanning the medication and the IV pump, and confirming in the EMR. Human error is removed when the IV pump integration system automatically programs and starts the IV pump. This is a technical system which requires the nurse to have expertise in …
Suicide Mortality Of Emergency Department Patients, Briony Marie Dubose Mhi, Rn, Lss, Bb
Suicide Mortality Of Emergency Department Patients, Briony Marie Dubose Mhi, Rn, Lss, Bb
Dissertations
Purpose The purpose of this retrospective comparative study is to describe relationships among biological, psychological, sociocultural factors and emergency department (ED) care among discharged ED patients and describe the association of these variables with subsequent suicide mortality.
Rationale Identifying patients who are most at risk of suicide mortality post ED discharge can focus resources, refine interventions, and prevent suicide. Additionally, recognizing patterns of ED care including ordering of a psychiatric evaluation and disposition status can provide data for potential practice changes.
Background Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States and has been since 2008. Suicide …
Time To Medical Help-Seeking For Adults Who Experience Symptoms Of Stroke In A California-Mexico Border Region, Jean Rockwell
Time To Medical Help-Seeking For Adults Who Experience Symptoms Of Stroke In A California-Mexico Border Region, Jean Rockwell
Dissertations
Background: Acute thrombolytic therapy for ischemic stroke must be administered within 4.5 hours of stroke symptom onset. Despite its proven efficacy fewer than 12% of those suffering acute ischemic stroke receive this treatment. The most common reason for low utilization is late medical help-seeking. Though the relationship among predictor variables and time to medical help-seeking have been explored in previous studies, it stills remains uncertain which predictors are most influential. The aim of this study was to identify factors associated with time to medical help-seeking for patients who experienced symptoms of stroke within a U.S. Southern California-Mexico border region. This …
