The Prediction Of Behavioral Health Outcomes In Adults With Sickle Cell Disease Using The Chronic Disease Outcomes Triad Model, Lisa G. Fryar Jul 2021

The Prediction Of Behavioral Health Outcomes In Adults With Sickle Cell Disease Using The Chronic Disease Outcomes Triad Model, Lisa G. Fryar

FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The lifelong experience of acute and chronic pain associated with sickle cell disease (SCD) not only has damaging physiological sequelae, but it also can negatively impact affected persons psychologically and socioculturally. These triad of SCD sequelae have an inter-relational and interactional mind-body-social connection that impact the behaviors of adults with SCD. These physiological, psychological, and sociocultural domains comprise the triadic sequelae.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the inter-relational and interactional mind-body-social relationship of the triadic sequelae in SCD as predictors of behavioral health outcomes (i.e., sickle cell fatalism, perceived sickle cell prejudice, and SCD self-efficacy) based on …

Measurement And Predictors Of Mental Health Among Parents Of Children With Intellectual And Developmental Disabilities, Rumi Agarwal May 2021

Measurement And Predictors Of Mental Health Among Parents Of Children With Intellectual And Developmental Disabilities, Rumi Agarwal

FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Parents of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) experience elevated levels of stress, anxiety, and other adverse mental health conditions. Despite extensive literature on parental mental health, this research addressed three gaps. This was necessary given that the stressors parents experience vary with the age of the child. Of the 11 studies included in the final review, it was evident that most interventions and scales were not aligned with the unique …

Antenatal Stressful Life Events And Postpartum Depression In The United States: The Role Of Women’S Socioeconomic Status At The State Level, Soumyadeep Mukherjee

FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this dissertation was to examine patterns of antenatal stressful life events (SLEs) experienced by women in the United States (U.S.) and their association with postpartum depression (PPD). It further explored the role of women's state-level socio-economic status (SES) on PPD; the racial/ethnic dispartites in SLE-PPD relationship; and the role of provider communication on perinatal depression.

Data from 2009–11 Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS) and SES indicators published by the Institute of Women’s Policy Research (IWPR) were used. Latent class analysis (LCA) was performed to identify unobserved class membership based on antenatal SLEs. Multilevel generalized linear mixed …

A Pilot Study Examining The Difference In Community Mental Health Services Users' Symptomatology And Concordance With Medication Regimens After Completion Of The Quarto Adherence Therapy Intervention, Stephanie Hall Ford

FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A randomized, experimental pilot study of QUATRO Adherence Therapy examined differences at baseline and follow up in the dependent variables of severity of psychiatric symptomatology and medication concordance as measured by the Positive and Negative Symptom Scale and the Personal Evaluation of Transitions in Treatment for subjects with schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder at a community mental health center. The sample was 23 subjects. A questionnaire developed for the study collected data at follow-up. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, /-tests, and repeat Anova to compare groups and determine significance of change following completion of the intervention. Program evaluation was positive. …
