Spinal metastases can result in severe neurologic compromise and decreased overall survival. Despite treatment advances, local disease progression is frequent, highlighting the need for novel therapies. Tumor treating fields (TTFields) impair tumor cell replication and are influenced by properties of surrounding tissue. We hypothesized that bone's dielectric properties will enhance TTFields-mediated suppression of tumor growth in spinal metastasis models. Computational modeling of TTFields intensity was performed following surgical resection of a spinal metastasis and demonstrated enhanced TTFields intensity within the resected vertebral body. Additionally, luciferase-tagged human KRIB osteosarcoma and A549 lung adenocarcinoma cell lines were cultured in demineralized bone grafts …

Osteoid osteoma is a benign bone-forming tumor with hallmark of tumor cells directly forming mature bone. Osteoid osteoma accounts for around 5% of all bone tumors and 11% of benign bone tumors with a male predilection. It occurs predominantly in long bones of the appendicular skeleton. According to Musculoskeletal Tumor Society staging system for benign tumors, osteoid osteoma is a stage-2 lesion. It is classified based on location as cortical, cancellous, or subperiosteal. Nocturnal pain is the most common symptom that usually responds to salicyclates and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications. CT is the modality of choice not only for diagnosis but …
Lipoma Of The Tendon Sheath Causing Symptoms Of De Quervain’S Tenosynovitis: A Case Report, James Rose, Moheb S. Moneim

Deep lipomas arising from the extensor compartments of the wrist are extremely rare. Owing to infrequent presentation and mass effect on nearby structures, lipomas can be mistaken for other clinical entities. We describe a 70-year-old woman who presented to our clinic with symptoms initially suggestive of de Quervain’s tenosynovitis of the left wrist. However, findings of physical examinations and imaging techniques revealed a lipoma of the tendon sheath of the second dorsal compartment. The patient was successfully treated operatively, with excision and release of the first dorsal compartment. To help accurately diagnosis and treat lipomas of the wrist in deep-tissue …

Lipomas are benign tumors composed of adipose tissue and typically encountered in middle-aged patients. Although the etiology remains unknown, this lesion can occur throughout the body. However, it is rarely seen in the finger. Typical treatment has often involved observation, but excision techniques have also reported successful outcomes. We describe a 64-year-old male patient who reported to our clinic with a painless soft-tissue mass in the index finger of his left hand, and we performed operative excision for treatment. The findings of physical examinations, radiographs, and magnetic resonance imaging tests had indicated the presence of lipoma, and results of pathological …

Objective:
The present study was done to find out the frequency of malignant tumors of bone and to categorize the prevelence of various histological types of osseous malignancies with respect to age, sex and site of origin.
Setting:
This study included consecutive cases of malignant bone tumors, which were diagnosed in the department of pathology at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi during the period of three years (1995-1997).
Methods:
These tumors were initially evaluated on H & E stained section from paraffin embedded tissue blocks. Special stains and immunohistochemical analysis was performed whenever required.
Results:
A total of 169 …
