Background
In this study, we aimed to assess the hospital course, outcomes after hospitalization, and predictors of outcomes in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS).
Methods
We included 1403 patients with AS between 2016 and 2021 who were identified using International Classification of Disease (ICD) codes from a large for-profit healthcare system database. Demographics and clinical characteristics were compared between those who had a favorable outcome, defined as being discharged to home without readmission within 3 months of discharge, versus those who had an unfavorable outcome. A stepwise logistic regression was used to identify demographic and clinical characteristics associated with home …

Introduction
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis and can severely affect function and quality of life. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is derived from a patient’s own blood and has potential as an adjunct to treat OA. However, research has been limited for small joints such as the carpometacarpal (CMC) joint.
Clinical Findings
A 65-year-old Caucasian male complained of bilateral wrist and neck pain after a motor vehicle accident. His initial exam noted swelling, tenderness and pain with movement at the bilateral thumb CMC joints and anatomic snuffboxes. However, there was no strength, range of motion or tactile deficits …

Adipose tissue (AT) has diverse and important functions in body insulation, mechanical protection, energy metabolism and the endocrine system. Despite its relative abundance in the human body, the clinical significance of AT in musculoskeletal (MSK) medicine, particularly its role in painful MSK conditions, is under-recognized. Pain associated with AT can be divided into intrinsic (AT as a primary pain generator), extrinsic (AT as a secondary pain generator) or mixed origin. Understanding AT as an MSK pain generator, both by mechanism and its specific role in pain generation by body region, enhances the clinical decision-making process and guides therapeutic strategies in …
