Currently, in most health care facilities across the country, they are experiencing a shortage of nurses. Nurses are taking on heavy loads of patients that are only getting sicker. Many nurses are experiencing symptoms of burnout such as depression and anxiety. This project analyzed the effects of guided meditations and a stress management class on undergraduate, prelicensure nursing students’ perceived stress levels. College students and professional nurses are both susceptible to having high stress levels. Mindfulness activities have been shown to lower stress levels. Undergraduate, prelicensure nursing students participated in this project determining the effects of guided meditations and a stress management class on perceived stress levels in a quantitative, pre- and postinterventional study. A growing body of research suggests that incorporating classroom-based mindfulness interventions in elementary schools is associated with improvements in student behavior, self-regulation, and measures of mental health. However, the adoption of teacher-led mindfulness programs in California’s public schools has not been widely embraced. This doctoral project explored the impact of an educational intervention on pre-service teachers’ perceptions, attitudes, and intentions to implement mindfulness interventions in their classrooms. A brief educational intervention and website resource were provided to multidisciplinary teaching credential students in a 2-year graduate credential program. In a trauma facility, it is important that there be training for the healthcare providers that gives them tools to manage their internal reactions to the day-to-day events, as well as create a safe space and encourage a sense of community. For healthcare workers in high-trauma areas- such as the new COVID-19 units, post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD) has been on the rise, in 2011, 14% of nurses were diagnosed, in 2019 an estimated 40% of nurses suffer from the disorder. Abstract

Problem: Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) affects thousands of Americans every year. Mindfulness, a practice of bringing oneself into the present moment, has been shown to impact anxiety symptoms positively.

Objective: This prospective observational correlational study utilized mindfulness-based exercises to help decrease anxiety severity according to the generalized anxiety disorder-7 (GAD-7) in an outpatient psychiatric practice.

Methods: Participants practiced mindfulness exercises for two months. The GAD-7 was completed three times to monitor symptom severity. Two participant satisfaction surveys were completed to determine whether participants felt the exercises were beneficial for decreasing their anxiety.

This evidence-based pilot (EBP) project was implemented to decrease stress among employees who work in a financial-based occupational health setting. According to the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Stress in America online survey, 64% of survey-respondents reported that work is a significant source of stress (2018). A review of current literature presented in this work suggests that MBSR participation results in NKCA, T-cell and B-cell restoration as well as a reduction in inflammatory biomarkers. While results from these studies are statistically significant, they are, however, relatively small. Furthermore, the reliability and one’s ability to generalize study findings from this literature review is limited by consistently small sample sizes, high attrition, differing forms of MBSR application, and inconsistent adherence to MBSR home practices.

The effects of burnout syndrome among nurses are well documented in the literature. A pilot educational mindfulness-based intervention was implemented online amongst undergraduate nursing students to decrease stress and increase mindfulness. Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate if brief Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) sessions can improve nurse leader resilience and overall mindfulness.

Conceptual Framework: Two different conceptual frameworks, Jean Watson’s theory of caring and Albert Bandura’s theory of self-efficacy, were used to guide this project. Watson’s theory of caring is defined as healing of the mind, body, and spirit. This theory supports caring for oneself while caring for others. Bandura’s theory focuses on the belief that individuals can influence their own lives.
