Exploring Relationships Among Environmental And Intrapersonal Variables And Evidence-Based Practice Implementation, Amanda N. Canada Dec 2019

Exploring Relationships Among Environmental And Intrapersonal Variables And Evidence-Based Practice Implementation, Amanda N. Canada

Nursing Theses and Dissertations

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is not consistently implemented within healthcare settings; although many organizations claim it is how they deliver care in the 21st century. In a review of the literature, multiple intrapersonal variables were found to impact the inconsistency with which EBP is applied and the success of its implementation within nursing practice. Organizational culture and perceived stress can influence the uptake of EBP beliefs and can affect EBP implementation. Clinicians who have more confidence in their EBP knowledge and skills are expected to implement best practices. Underpinned by Social Cognitive Theory, a model was developed to guide study …

The aim of this study is to assess the impact of mentorship on nurses’ and midwives’ knowledge and self-efficacy in managing PPH. The pre and post study design recruited 141 nurses and midwives working in the labour and delivery department in selected health centers from the North Province of Rwanda. At post-mentorship, 123 nurses …

Collaborative Self-Management And Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: Integrating Patient Needs Into An Educational Program For Nurses, Loretta G. Mccormick Rn (Ec) Jun 2019

Collaborative Self-Management And Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: Integrating Patient Needs Into An Educational Program For Nurses, Loretta G. Mccormick Rn (Ec)

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) affects over 2.5 million individuals Canada wide and is the leading cause of hospitalization in Canada among chronic diseases with an 18% hospital readmission rate. The high cost of emergency room visits, hospitalizations, and readmissions for COPD tells a story of need; the need for education of patients. Collaborative self-management (CSM) is a process whereby the individual patient and nurse work together to improve health. The integration of CSM in COPD care has shown evidence for reduced exacerbations, hospitalizations and readmissions. Little is known about the level of knowledge and self-efficacy of hospital-based nurses …

Exploring Help-Seeking Intentions Of Homeless Veterans Attending A Stand Down Event, Tara Vaughn May 2019

Exploring Help-Seeking Intentions Of Homeless Veterans Attending A Stand Down Event, Tara Vaughn

Nursing Theses and Dissertations

Lack of help-seeking behavior among homeless veterans results in higher burden of disease and lower quality of life. No studies have been conducted involving help- seeking intentions of homeless veterans within the veteran stand down population. Pender’s Revised Health Promotion Model was used to guide this descriptive correlational study with the aim of exploring the extent selected personal characteristics and experiences and behavior-specific factors affect help-seeking intentions among homeless veterans attending a stand down event.

A convenience sample of 86 homeless veterans (mean age 56) was recruited from a 3-day veteran stand down event in Northern California. Each participant was …

Promoting Self-Efficacy Among Head And Neck Cancer Patients, Lily Lam May 2019

Promoting Self-Efficacy Among Head And Neck Cancer Patients, Lily Lam

Doctoral Projects

Current survivorship visits at the Stanford head and neck oncology program are not standardized to address ongoing post-treatment sequelae. The objectives of this study help to address whether current non-standardized visits actually help to empower patients to self-manage their chronic diagnosis of head and neck cancer by measuring their self-efficacy levels before and after their post-treatment survivorship visit.

Given the convenience sampling method, 17 patients were enrolled in this quasi-experimental pilot study. Demographic information was collected for each patient: gender, ethnicity, smoker status, and age. Head and neck cancer patients would first be surveyed before and after their follow up …

Non-Psychiatric Nurse Self-Efficacy With Suicidality After An Educational Intervention, Nadin E. Knippschild

Nursing Theses and Capstone Projects

Lack of acute-care hospital non-psychiatric nurses’ confidence and competence with suicidality has been reported in the literature. Evidence supports multi-modal education to increase recall and improve outcomes. The theory of self-efficacy included concepts of confidence as well as competence and served as the project’s theoretical underpinning. A descriptive design was utilized to examine the effects of an education intervention using various methodologies addressing suicide risk factors, prevention, management, and safe care on nurses’ perceived level of self-efficacy. Methods included a pre-test survey, an education module intervention, and a non-matched post-test survey. The survey used consisted of 11 of the original …
