Health-care providers (HCPs) are vulnerable to occupational health hazards, including dirty needle-stick injuries (DNSIs), which increase the risk for infection with HIV and other blood-borne pathogens. This study examines the perceptions of nurses and nurse practitioners who work in various health care settings regarding HIV-risk and DNSIs, in order to ascertain how these perceptions inform their decision-making regarding their health and nursing practice. I utilize a phenomenological approach to analyze the lived reality and embodiment of the DNSI experience by HCPs. Advance care planning (ACP) is a process that seeks to ensure patients receive medical care that is consistent with their values and preferences. The process has proven benefits for patients and their loved ones but is under-utilized in clinical practice. Over 10,000 medical errors occur daily, with an estimated financial impact of preventable mistakes is 20 billion dollars annually. Most nurses have limited education on end-of-life care (EoLC), which can affect their ability to provide care to meet the needs of the dying patient. Nurses in a critical care unit in a hospital in the Southeastern United States lacked education on EoLC for their patients. The purpose of this study was to develop a project guided by Kolcaba’s theory on caring. The staff education project addressed the attitudes and knowledge of 36 nurses before and after an educational presentation on EoLC. Data were analyzed descriptively. This research study aimed to determine the prevalence of knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) among Baccalaureate nursing students. A descriptive correlational design was used to determine the prevalence of AD knowledge among juniors in an Adult I course and seniors in a Mental Health nursing course.
