A Staff Education Program On The Education Of Nurses On Transgender Health Care, Diana Collins
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
In nursing education, both preregistration and continuing professional development, there is an absence of information about the specific needs of transgender people. The practicum site observed that education on the needs of the transgender community was lacking, discussing a discrepancy in the information offered and the scant attention paid to the unique requirements of transgender individuals. The goal of this project was to create a program that would raise staff members’ understanding of the exceptional health care requirements of the transgender population by providing them with an evidence-based assessment screening tool and training on transgender health care for nurses. The …

Hemoglobin A1c Values In Patients With Two Types Of Insurance, Patricia Ann White
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death for adults in the United States. Evidence suggests that not all patients receive the same level of care and discrepancies may be based on the type of health care coverage they have. Providers use Hemoglobin A1C (A1C) as the primary test to indicate treatment success for persons with diabetes. Providers may be ordering this critical lab value differently based on the patient’s insurance plan. In this project, A1C levels in diabetic patients receiving managed care versus traditional Medicare were evaluated. It is important to understand if potential disparities in care exist. The …
