The core principles of SAMHSA are to prevent overdose abuse and to provide appropriate treatment for those with an opioid abuse disorder. The concern addressed by the Doctor of Nursing Practice project was the gap in physician education regarding a Best Practice Alert (BPA) in the Electronic Medical Record that appears when prescribing an opioid to a patient without cancer. The practice problem identified at the project site was the lack of nurses’ knowledge of how cultural preferences influence diabetes self-management practices among African Americans with diabetes mellitus. An educational program focused on the cultural preferences of Sierra Leoneans that influence diabetes self-management practices was provided for 48 nurses who worked in the agency. The doctoral project included concepts from nursing education and cultural competence theories to inform the approach. Evidence suggests that not all patients receive the same level of care and discrepancies may be based on the type of health care coverage they have. In 2010, nearly 1 in 5 visits to the emergency department (ED) were categorized as potentially avoidable, resulting in a significant $65 billion increase in health care expenditures and exacerbating ED overcrowding. This project addressed whether a staff education initiative focused on evidence-based patient teaching strategies can enhance nurses’ patient education skills regarding when patients should seek medical attention. Inefficient communication between nurses and patients increases the risk of medication errors and jeopardizes patient safety, ultimately resulting in lower patient satisfaction as indicated by Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) scores. The purpose of this quality improvement initiative was to assess the impact of educating nurses on patient medication education using the teach-back method. Data were collected using HCAHPS survey responses from adult patients with medical conditions who had been discharged from a medical-surgical unit. This study involved determining why mothers hesitate to vaccinate their children and where they get their information about vaccinations. This descriptive qualitative study guided by the health belief model explored the influence social media has on mothers’ perceived barriers to vaccinating their children. A descriptive qualitative approach was used, and one-on-one audio interviews were conducted via Zoom or in person with 19 participants. Lack of effective communication among health care providers results in negative health outcomes, low patient satisfaction, and compromised patient safety. An educational intervention to improve communication skills was implemented with staff including licensed practical nurses, registered nurses, and nurse practitioners. Maternal mortality continues to increase in the United States, despite medical advances. Patients with negative social determinants of health (SDOH) and racial/ethnic minorities are at increased risk for maternal morbidities although most mortality and morbidities found in maternal health could have been prevented. This qualitative phenomenological study offered an in-depth exploration of the menopausal experiences of seven Urhobo women, ages 45–65 years old, representing diverse occupational backgrounds and communities from the Niger Delta region of Nigeria, who shed light on the multifaceted dimensions of menopausal experiences. Undergraduate nursing faculty are responsible for preparing nursing students for patient care in a dynamic health care setting and are challenged with meeting the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) change to the Next Generation NCLEX (NGN). The National Council of State Boards of Nursing recommended the incorporation of the Clinical Judgment Measurement Model (CJMM) and competency-based curriculum in preparation for NGN testing that began in 2023.
