The population of America is growing older every year. Thirteen percent of the population is at least 65 years old. Many elders have limited health care choices because fewer physicians are locating their practices in rural areas. Self-esteem is recognized as a basic personality- characteristic of positive and productive behavior. The view the adolescent female has of herself is of utmost importance and may have an impact on behavior, achievement, social functioning, and physical and emotional health. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was a relationship between sociodemographic variables and self-esteem in adolescent females. The purpose of this descriptive study was to compare the prenatal help-seeking behaviors of two ethnic groups of rural women in a southeastern state. Three hypotheses guided the study: Ho^, There will be no relationship between selected demographic variables and help-seeking behaviors in Native Americans; HOg, There will be no relationship between selected demographic variables and help-seeking behaviors in Anglo women; and Ho^, There will be no difference in the factors predicting prenatal help- seeking behavior between Native Americans and Anglo women. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between rural community leaders' knowledge of the role of the nurse practitioner and rural community leaders' acceptance of the nurse practitioner as part of the community health care system. King's (1981) conceptual framework for nursing provided the direction and structure for this descriptive correlational study. Fifteen subjects, who held a position of leadership within a rural northeast Mississippi county, participated in the study.
