Workplace aggression and violence toward healthcare workers are documented extensively throughout the literature and unfortunately, this behavior has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. Challenges brought on by the pandemic, such as visitor restrictions and short staffing, have only exacerbated patient aggression and violence. Workplace aggression and violence can cause not only psychological or physical injury to nurses and nursing staff, but it also impacts patient care, job satisfaction, absenteeism, and nurse retention. Training programs to improve nurses’ assessment skills to predict aggressive behaviors and de-escalate violent situations can help nurses better predict and manage patient aggression. Pre-eclampsia can be a serious development for both mother and fetus during pregnancy. Increased mortality and morbidity rates have been shown in women diagnosed with pre-eclampsia. Higher education for registered nurses on a Women’s Urgent Care (WUC) center will help diagnose the mother more quickly and inevitably receive treatment sooner leading to better outcomes for the birth of her newborn. Standardized nursing education can help equip nurses with appropriate skills needed to care for certain patient populations. Pediatric neurofibromatosis type-1 (NF1) patients have unique health needs, and often seek care at institutions where no NF1 training has been provided. The purpose of this project was to explore existing nursing NF1 knowledge and knowledge perception in a pediatric oncology infusion center within a large bay area children’s hospital, a location where nurses have varied NF1 education and have recently been asked to care for this population. The Cycle 4 OIG medical reports published in January 2016 for California Correctional Institution (CCI) noted emergency medical response (EMR) inadequacies. Nursing was specifically called out for EMR care deficits. Chest pain and respiratory distress were amongst the top signs and symptoms identified as having substandard nursing care issues within the report. The cycle 4 OIG medical inspection report gives specific incidences of patient care inadequacies.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to collect information on the perceptions of motivational interviewing (MI) among Registered Nurse (RN) to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students and whether or not the students felt it could increase holistic practice. Methodology: A qualitative descriptive study was used to collect data through semi-structured one on one interviews from six RN-BSN students post a module taught on MI. Qualitative content analysis was utilized to process the data. Findings: The students felt that MI was a useful tool for practice in improving patient communication and would contribute to holistic practice.

The highest health care disparities in the country plague the Mississippi Delta. A weakened economy, minimal access to healthcare and an outdated traditional clinical learning environment place enormous strains on nursing education in this area to provide more nurses. The office of Nursing Workforce reported a 14% to 16% nursing turnover in the Delta compared to the national average of 13.5%. As a result, the health care organization has encountered high nurse turnover, increased staffing shortages, and a decrease in nursing quality indicators.
