A Parallel-Group Randomized Controlled Trial Of The Boa®-Constricting Iv Band, Richard N. Bradley

Richard N Bradley

Background. Few studies have demonstrated the ideal technique for placement of peripheral venous access.

Objectives. The purpose of this study was to conduct a randomized, controlled trial to determine if there was a difference in success rates for establishing peripheral intravenous lines (IVs) when using the BOA® Constricting Band (BOA) compared to a standard elastic tourniquet.

Multimodal Secondary Prevention Behavioral Interventions For Tia And Stroke: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis., Maggie Lawrence

Dr. Maggie Lawrence

Background Guidelines recommend implementation of multimodal interventions to help prevent recurrent TIA/stroke. We undertook a systematic review to assess the effectiveness of behavioral secondary prevention interventions.

Strategy Searches were conducted in 14 databases, including MEDLINE (1980-January 2014). We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) testing multimodal interventions against usual care/modified usual care. All review processes were conducted in accordance with Cochrane guidelines.

Results Twenty-three papers reporting 20 RCTs (6,373 participants) of a range of multimodal behavioral interventions were included. Methodological quality was generally low. Meta-analyses were possible for physiological, lifestyle, psychosocial and mortality/recurrence outcomes. Note: all reported confidence intervals are 95%. …

Commercial Medical Transportation - The Better Alternative To Air Ambulance, Jime Carlo Nov 2013

Commercial Medical Transportation - The Better Alternative To Air Ambulance, Jime Carlo

Jime Carlo

From a patient's perspective, when there are at least a few days to make arrangements, commercial travel is a viable [and often superior] and cost effective alternative to air ambulance transport. When all the necessary pre-planning, clearances and pre-arranging are done by a third party, and there is a medical escort to navigate the logistics of travel and provide in-flight medical care, the entire transport experience is usually more positive for patients choosing commercial medical transport over a traditional air ambulance.
