Recurrent episodes of severe hypersomnia coupled with cognitive and behavioral abnormalities like disorientation, apathy, derealization, compulsive eating and hypersexuality are hallmarks of unusual sleep disease known as Klein-Levin syndrome. We hereby discuss a 46-year-old gentleman who came with recurrent episode of loss of muscle tone, was diagnosed with Klein-Levin syndrome and responded well to medications.

Objective:

Autonomic dysreflexia (AD) in spinal cord injury (SCI) can present as hyperhidrosis due to sudomotor dysfunction. Hyperhidrosis can also occur without an identifiable etiology. There are no standard treatment guidelines for refractory hyperhidrosis in the setting of persistent noxious stimulation. Stellate ganglion blockade may prevent hyperhidrosis by inhibiting profound sympathetic surge and vasoconstriction.

Case:

58-year-old female with C7 ASIA-A quadriplegia was admitted to the hospital for episodes of profuse sweating in the setting of autonomic dysreflexia secondary to underlying T7-8 discitis. Aims: In this systematic review, the primary aim is to investigate the hospital cost burden attributed to post-operative delirium (POD). A secondary aim is to examine how patient length of stay (LOS) in hospital varies across the selected studies.

Background: POD is a common occurrence after major surgery and leads to serious medical complications. It is associated with increased morbidity and double the risk of mortality from surgery compared to non-delirious patients. POD increases patient LOS in hospital and increases the economic burden on patients and the health system.

This study evaluated SNOW scale performance in the prehospital setting and its ability to predict LVO or distal medium vessel occlusion (DMVO) in patients suspected of having acute ischemic stroke (AIS), a scenario in which transport time to an endovascular treatment-capable facility (ECSC) is critical.

Purpose: Studies have shown increased residential greenspace is associated with improved outcome following stroke. This study sought to determine if residential greenspace is an independent stroke risk factor.

Methods: A retrospective 1:4 matched case-control study involving 1174 stroke and 4696 control patients over a 3-year period from Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, was conducted. Greenspace was determined using normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) for a 250-meter radius surrounding a subject’s residence. Crump et al. have provided a series of criteria to assess animal sentience that is focused on the perception of pain, which is known to have both sensory and emotional components. They also provide a qualitative scoring system to assess data that address the eight criteria and apply this paradigm to decapod crustaceans. The criteria laid out have the potential to be applied to other invertebrates typically thought to have sensory response to tissue damage, but no emotional component to pain perception.

Introduction: Acute subdural hemorrhage (aSDH) in association with aneurismal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a severe disease with an incidence of 0.5% to 7.9% of all SAH. Due to the rarity of aneurysmal aSDH, it remains difficult to define a comprehensive management protocol. In this case review, following the CARE guidelines, we show the hybrid management of this pathology to know the importance of using different types of neurosurgical treatments in case of two severe diseases in critical patients.
