Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the changes in volume, cross-sectional area and depth of the upper airway following the surgical removal of the adenoids.

Materials and Methods: 16 patients were diagnosed with hypertrophic adenoids and referred for surgical removal. Pre-surgical and post-surgical CBCT scans were taken on each patient. Volume measurements of the total airway, oropharynx and nasopharynx were recorded. Background: Acute poisoning is one of the most common reasons for emergency department visits around the world. In Pakistan, the epidemiological data on poisoning is limited due to an under developed poison information surveillance system. We aim to describe the characteristics associated with intentional and unintentional poisoning in Pakistan presenting to emergency departments.
Methods: The data was extracted from the Pakistan National Emergency Department Surveillance (Pak-NEDS) which was an active surveillance conducted between November 2010 and March 2011. Background—Perioperative antiplatelet agents potentially increase bleeding after non–ST‐segment elevation (NSTE) acute coronary syndromes (ACS). The protease‐activated receptor 1 antagonist vorapaxar reduced cardiovascular events and was associated with increased bleeding versus placebo in NSTE ACS, but its efficacy and safety in noncardiac surgery (NCS) remain unknown. We aimed to evaluate ischemic, bleeding, and long‐term outcomes of vorapaxar in NCS after NSTE ACS.

In 2013 an international taskforce of the ILAE shaped out a communal definition of Epilepsy.(2) This definition is useful for all or most practical purposes, thus more helpful in management. Epilepsy was defined as recurrent unprovoked seizures i.e 2 or more at least 24 hours apart. Material and Methods: This descriptive study was conducted in the Department of Neurosurgery Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar from September 2010 to April 2011. Material and Methods: This prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was conducted administering either LNX or placebo to patients who were diagnosed with migraine without aura according to the International Headache Society (the year 2004) criteria between 2010 and 2012 Results: Of 44 patients with 120 migraine attacks, 38 were female and rest were males. Proteases may play a role in the differing pathogenesis of these cysts and tumours. Human kallikrein proteins (KLKs) are a group of 15 serine proteases implicated in a variety of signaling and regulatory roles. Idiopathic aortitis is among the most common causes of non-infectious aortitis, which rarely presents with anemia.

CASE PRESENTATION:

Here we report a case of a 49-year-old muhajir female who presented with shortness of breath and easy fatigability for the past 6 months. Physical examination revealed pallor and a diastolic murmur in the aortic region. Echocardiography showed thickened and calcified aortic and mitral valves, severe aortic regurgitation and dilatation of ascending aorta. These regulatory pathways consist of a transmembrane sensor protein that responds to an environmental cue leading to autophosphorylation, followed by the transfer of the phosphate to a cytoplasmic response regulator. Introduction: Inhaled & systemic steroids are one of the well-documented risks factors for Candida esophagitis. However, the role of gastric acid suppression remains controversial.

Methods:

We conducted a retrospective case-control study of 420 patients consisting of 84 cases of Candida esophagitis and 336 matched controls. Our cohort was gathered from subjects evaluated from 2001 to 2012. The diagnosis of Candida esophagitis was based on endoscopic and/or histological criteria.

Open wounds represent a potential area of medicolegal risk if foreign bodies are not identified prior to wound closure. The importance of imaging of lacerations was underscored by a recent case where a 20-year-old male collided with a friend's mouth on a trampoline sustaining a simple, superficial scalp laceration. The wound was evaluated in typical fashion including irrigation and local exploration and was prepared for closure. The friend was then evaluated and noted to have multiple extensive dental fractures. An increased index of suspicion generated further evaluation of the first patient's wound. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the outcomes of patients with mainly lymphoma and multiple myeloma after autologous stem cell transplant. The pretransplant workup consisted of the complete blood count, an evaluation of the liver, kidney, lung, and infectious profile, chest radiographs, and a dental review. Tendons and ligaments insert into bone through a transitional tissue termed the enthesis which is susceptible to injury and difficult to repair. Entheses contain a region of calcified fibrocartilage (CFC), however mineral-associated proteins in this tissue remain poorly characterized. Bone sialoprotein (BSP) is a phosphoprotein associated with mineralizing tissues. In these studies BSP was identified in the CFC of entheses by immunohistochemistry. Analysis of the entheses of Bsp^-/- mice indicate abnormalities in the CFC. A small proportion of 4H (Hypomyelination, Hypodontia and Hypogonadotropic Hypogonadism) or RNA polymerase III (POLR3)-related leukodystrophy cases are negative for mutations in the previously identified causative genes POLR3A and POLR3B. Here we report eight of these cases carrying recessive mutations in POLR1C, a gene encoding a shared POLR1 and POLR3 subunit, also mutated in some Treacher Collins syndrome (TCS) cases. Using shotgun proteomics and ChIP sequencing, we demonstrate that leukodystrophy-causative mutations, but not TCS mutations, in POLR1C impair assembly and nuclear import of POLR3, but not POLR1, leading to decreased binding to POLR3 target genes.
