Siblings of individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD) are not often thought of as a group that needs support in the primary care setting. However, the literature on siblings demonstrates that they have a variety of needs, including support with future planning, caregiving, and their mental and physical health. This project aims to increase awareness of the unique experiences of siblings as well as suggest changes that can be implemented in primary care to provide better support.

Aging populations and chronic conditions have shifted care from hospital settings to community and family settings, caregiver burden is increasing. This project was focused on understanding the factors that impact the wellbeing of caregivers of patients with chronic conditions/cancer. Focus is also on identifying barriers to accessing support and increasing awareness of available community support resources.

Caregivers serve as a critical extension of US health care system. Approximately 80% of adults requiring long-term care currently live at home in the community, and unpaid family caregivers provide 90% of their care. Among caregivers, 81 % feel inadequately trained for the skills they perform and those who report the highest burden are more likely to be less educated, to live with the care recipient, and to perceive they had no choice in assuming the caregiver role.
