Successful Application Of Craniosacral Therapy In A Case Of Acute Ptosis Following A Covid-19 Infection., Efterpi Rompoti

Journal of Transformative Touch

This case study offers a unique insight on the effectiveness of CranioSacral therapy (CST) in a 49 year old woman experiencing an acute stage of a viral infection (Covid-19) causing a partial left Oculomotor nerve palsy. A CST glial/Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) specific protocol was utilised over 2 consecutive days. The patient recovered fully after 5 days. The results of this particular case can open up the possibility of utilising CST more widely in treating cranial nerve palsies following a viral infection to support the healing process and the functional restoration.

Background: The clinical picture, outcome of Covid-19 infection and vaccine effectiveness vary in different individuals. These may depend on multiple variables like age, sex, comorbidities, and immune status against the virus and in general. Objective: To describe demography, clinical profile, vaccination status and its impact on clinical outcome of hospitalized Covid-19 patients. Methods: This retrospective study was conducted on hospitalized Covid-19 patients of N.S.C.G.M.C. Khandwa, a tertiary care centre from central India. We studied 188 Covid-19 positive admitted patients’ demographic profile, clinical profile, co-morbidity, vaccination status, clinical outcome and association of these variables to their vaccination status during second Covid-19 …

Covid-19 Vaccine Effectiveness In Preventing Severe Infections And Mortality Among Patients In Kerala, India., Surag Mk, Sarin S. M, Sarosh Kumar K K, Udaya A

Digital Journal of Clinical Medicine

ABSTRACT

Background:

India has a top status among world countries, related to the COVID-19 mortality that had crossed the 3-lakh level. The second wave of COVID19 had ravaged the world countries, created havoc of the highest order, leaving many hapless, thanks to the low availability of oxygen, ICU facilities, vaccines and counselling prospects.

There is a lack of information about how COVID-19 vaccines have affected mortality in specific geographic areas.

Method:

A Retrospective record-based design. Patients were matched for age, sex, ethnicity, co-morbidities and grouped into fully immunized, partially immunized and non-immunized.

The primary outcome was in-hospital deaths and secondary …

In-Silico Determination Of Phytochemicals Against Spike Protein Of Covid-19, Muhammad Irfan, Muhammad Adil, Areej Fatima, Arooj Fatima, Ammara Khalid, Muhammad Bilal

Journal of Bioresource Management

Spike protein is present on the exterior of SARS-CoV-2 that mediates the binding of virus with human ACE2 receptor. S-protein has the ability to mutate in a short span of time. Using S-protein as a therapeutic target, Covid-19 infection can be prevented. Many plant-derived phytochemicals are found effective to treat viral infections. In this study, we selected top 10 phytochemicals following the Lipinski’s rule of five from total 82 candidate phytochemicals. The binding energies were determined through molecular docking of the phytochemical ligands. Top three compounds having maximal interactions and lowest binding energies were visualized. We suggested Dictamnine, Deoxypodophyllotoxin and …

Effectiveness Of Stricter Vaccine Mandates In Public Schools And Childcare Centers, Anna Ferentinos

Emerging Writers

Vaccines have been a controversial and frequently discussed topic the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The amount of readily available information on the internet - accurate or not – has led to many theories and opinions on whether to vaccinate and why, or why not. This article discusses these theories, as well as the benefits and consequences of vaccine mandates, with the help of examples from other countries. The author argues that a federal vaccine mandate should be implemented in the United States of America so as to encourage parents to protect children through scheduled immunizations.

Background/aim: Biochemical markers are needed to show lung involvement in COVID-19 disease. Galectin-3 is known to play a key role in the inflammation and fibrosis process. We aimed to evaluate the predictive role of galectin-3 levels for pneumonia in patients with COVID-19. Materials and methods: Total of 176 patients with COVID-19, confirmed with reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction, admitted to the Erzurum Regional Training and Research Hospital was analyzed. The study was designed as a cross sectional. The baseline data of laboratory examinations, including galectin-3 were collected at the time of diagnosis. CT images evaluated by a single radiologist according …

Emerging And Reemerging Respiratory Viral Infections Up To Covid-19, İlhami̇ Çeli̇k, Esma Saatçi̇, Ayşegül Füsun Eyüboğlu

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Infectious diseases remain as the significant causes of human and animal morbidity and mortality, leading to extensive outbreaks and epidemics. Acute respiratory viral diseases claim over 4 million deaths and cause millions of hospitalizations in developing countries every year. Emerging viruses, especially the RNA viruses, are more pathogenic since most people have no herd immunity. The RNA viruses can adapt to the rapidly changing global and local environment due to the high error rate of their polymerases that replicate their genomes. Currently, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is determined as an infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 …

Antiviral Treatment Of Covid-19, Serap Yavuz, Serhat Ünal

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Currently, there is not any specific effective antiviral treatment for COVID-19. Although most of the COVID-19 patients have mild or moderate courses, up to 5%-10% can have severe, potentially life threatening course, there is an urgent need for effective drugs. Optimized supportive care remains the mainstay of therapy. There have been more than 300 clinical trials going on, various antiviral and immunomodulating agents are in various stages of evaluation for COVID-19 in those trials and some of them will be published in the next couple of months. Despite the urgent need to find an effective antiviral treatment for COVID-19 through …
