Latihan pada cabang bersepeda memperhatikan intensitas dengan salah satu parameternya denyut jantung. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui perbedaan perubahan tekanan darah dan denyut jantung pada berbagai intensitas latihan atlet balap sepeda. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah 11 atlet balap sepeda Pegasus Continental Cycling Team selama periode pengamatan April-Juni 2015. Teknik sampling menggunakan total sampling. Analisis data menggunakan uji One Way Anova. F hitung denyut jantung dengan intensitas latihan 3,695 ‰¥ F tabel 3,316 dengan probabilitas 0,037 < 0,05 menunjukkan ada perbedaan signifikan antara perubahan denyut jantung dengan berbagai intensitas latihan. F hitung tekanan sistol dengan intensitas latihan 2,372 ‰¤ F tabel 3,316 dengan probabilitas 0,111 > 0,05 menunjukkan tidak ada perbedaan signifikan antara perubahan tekanan sistol pada berbagai intensitas latihan. Background: Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) is one of the most common bariatric surgery procedures performed in the United States. LAGB results in safe and satisfactory weight loss, but it is often complicated with slippage, a complication requiring rebanding (reoperation). There is a paucity of studies and no uniform consensus regarding weight loss after rebanding.

Purpose: This study assessed the effect of rebanding for slippage after LAGB on weight loss up to five years.

Methods: This is a historical cohort study of 865 patients who underwent LAGB from 2001 to 2011. Rebanding was performed in 103 (11.9%) patients. Primary outcome …

Background: Women diagnosed with atypical ductal hyperplasia (ADH) or atypical lobular hyperplasia (ALH) have a fivefold increased risk of developing breast cancer. Because ADH/ALH can be precursors or predictive markers of a subsequent clinically significant event (SCSE), i.e. atypia, in situ or invasive carcinoma, the clinical outcome for these patients ranges anywhere from remission to invasive malignancy. Background: Malignant clear cell renal carcinoma (ccRCC) is an aggressive tumor that is highly resistant to chemotherapy and radiation. Current therapeutic approaches to management of ccRCC have not significantly improved patient survival, therefore novel therapies are needed. The von Hippel-Lindau tumor suppressor gene is frequently mutated in ccRCC resulting in unregulated transcriptional activity of hypoxia-inducible factors (HIF) 1α and 2α. HIF-mediated transcription leads to increased growth factor expression and growth factor receptor (GFR)-mediated signaling. Background: Many patients undergoing open heart surgery have sinus node dysfunction and atrial fibrillation, leading to adverse outcomes. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) delivered at the time of surgery may have a reparative effect on atrial tissue, thereby improving sinus node function and reducing or preventing atrial fibrillation. There is no widely accepted standard definition for Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP). The reliability of the current definitions in use remains controversial. The brain's input/output functions depend heavily on temporal processing. We sought to identify regions of the brain active in task performance during temporal discrimination of a sub-second auditory interval. We presented ten subjects with 40 paired tones and asked them to judge whether these comparison intervals were longer or shorter than a 100 ms standard. We then localized correlations between the Blood Oxygenation Level Dependent signal and task performance across subjects using event-related functional magnetic resonance imaging. Typically affecting males ranging from 20 to 24 years of age, Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON) is a disorder that is characterized by an acute loss of central vision. Although a heritable disease, LHON does not follow the patterns of classical Mendelian genetics. In fact, one of the most striking characteristics of LHON is that the disease is virtually always inherited maternally. Platelets undergo morphological changes upon activation, such as shape change and aggregation. These changes are known to be the result of actin remodeling, whereas the role of microtubule remodeling has been controversial. The objective of this study was to re-examine the role of actin and microtubule dynamics in platelet function. We used aggregometry to measure the effect of cytoskeletal inhibitors on platelet shape change, aggregation, and dense core release. Microtubule assembly was found to have no role in platelet function, because treatment with vinblastine or nocodazole had no effect on shape change, aggregation, or secretion. This article summarizes the current state of meditation research, specifically focusing on mindfulness-based stress reduction and transcendental meditation. Despite significant methodological problems with the studies reported to date on the subject, there is consistent evidence that meditation can produce changes in the nervous system and physiology of the meditator, and can help with various psychological markers of well-being. Regarding improvement in specific clinical diseases, research is generally mixed and preliminary. Strong recommendations cannot be made based on current evidence, and further studies are needed. Obesity is a well-known risk factor for adverse cardiovascular events, but some studies suggest higher body mass index (BMI) is associated with better outcomes after ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). We sought to determine the effect of body surface area (BSA) on adverse events after primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for STEMI and how this relates to the reported obesity paradox theory.

Scarring is the inevitable outcome of wound healing. This review looks at some of the underlying mechanisms of this complex process with the aim of identifying targets for therapeutic manipulation that could result in reduced scarring or even scarless wound repair. Fetal wounds are shown to heal without scars primarily due to low levels of TGF-β1 and TGF-β2 and high levels of TGF-β3 as compared to adult wounds which heal with scars. Abnormal excessive scarring in keloid and hypertrophic scars are also attributed to TGF-β. Clinical manipulation of TGF-β ratios showed promise as a therapeutic means of controlling scar formation. …

The transport of the therapeutic transgene can be accomplished using viral or non-viral methods. However, widespread use of viral vectors is limited due to its high cost of manufacture and safety concern. Non-viral vectors are limited in their effectiveness.
