Background/aim: Evaluating the relationship of patellar chondromalacia with obesity, infrapatellar fat pad (IFP) volume and popliteal artery intima-media thickness (IMT).Materials and methods: A total of203 patients with different degree of patellar chondromalacia (103 male, 100 female) and 52 control subjects (19 male, 33 female) were included and grouped according to sex, age, body surface area (BSA), body mass index (BMI) and patellar chondromalacia classification. All measurements were completed with 3T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Articular cartilage and IFP volume were measured in saggital plane using double echo steady state (DESS) and DIXON sequences, respectively. Patellar cartilage damage was graded using …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: In this study, it was aimed to investigate the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and cerebral oxygenation during spinal anesthesia in women undergoing cesarean section. This study also aimed to demonstrate whether fetal cord blood oxygenation was affected by maternal BMI and/or delivery time.Materials and methods: The study included parturients with ASA I score undergoing cesarean section under spinal anesthesia in 2015 and 2016. They were divided into two groups according to BMI: Group 1 comprised parturients with BMI of

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between serum fatty acid binding protein 4 (FABP4) levels and carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) in patients with hypothyroidism.Materials and methods: Forty subclinical hypothyroidism patients, 40 overt hypothyroidism patients, and 40 healthy controls were enrolled in the study. Blood pressure, body mass index, CIMT, fasting blood sugar, creatine, alanine aminotransferase, lipid parameters, insulin, free thyroxine, triiodothyronine, thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), thyroid peroxidase antibody (anti-TPO), thyroglobulin antibody (anti-TG), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (Hs-CRP), and FABP4 levels of all participants were measured. Results: Serum FABP4 levels were significantly higher in patients with subclinical and …
