Examining Gestational Diabetes Mellitus Educational Resources: Patient And Provider Perspectives, Allison F. Peebles, Morgan E. Cooley, Rose A. Maxwell

Objective: To analyze the effectiveness of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) education as well as patient and provider confidence in education practices. Study

Design: Women with a diagnosis of GDM who delivered at Miami Valley Hospital were included in the study. Patients were asked to complete a questionnaire to evaluate their knowledge and confidence in managing their GDM. Providers were asked to complete a questionnaire to provide their perspective on patient education related to GDM.

Results: Patients correctly identified 66% of the correct ways that GDM affects maternal health, fetal health, and pregnancy complications. Patients felt empowered by their education and …

Objective: To assess if medical students interested in pursuing a primary care specialty are more receptive and have a more positive attitude towards formulating differential diagnoses (DDx) using metamemory techniques (MMTs). Methods: Cross-sectional analysis of data obtained from 113 MS3 students from the Boonshoft School of Medicine. Students generated timed DDx for a clinical case before and after an instructional didactic session about MMTs. Demographic data (including intended medical specialty and attitudes towards the overall process) were collected. Paired t-test compared screened and unscreened DDx before and after the intervention. Introduction: Since 2012, researchers have focused on understanding the relationship between grit and the successful completion of medical school1. This study seeks to determine how grit levels, measured by survey at matriculation, relate to first year medical school academic performance.
