The Relationship Of Child Health And Parenting Stress To Child Neurocognitive Development, Nancy Alise Farrell
The Relationship Of Child Health And Parenting Stress To Child Neurocognitive Development, Nancy Alise Farrell
Theses and Dissertations (ETD)
Problem. Although the United States rates high in economic resources, the neurocognitive development (NCD) of children falls behind many other developed nations. Levels of parenting stress may be linked to sociodemographic factors such as the high incidence of poverty in children or health disparities in children, which in turn may affect NCD in children. Using the data from an observational, longitudinal cohort study of a diverse population could provide information related to parenting stress, child health, and related factors to guide and support interventions with families and policies to improve child NCD. Aims. The overall aim of this study was …
Psychometric Evaluation Of The Nursing Child Assessment Teaching (Ncat) Scale In Two Samples Of Mothers And Children, Samantha H. Ransone
Psychometric Evaluation Of The Nursing Child Assessment Teaching (Ncat) Scale In Two Samples Of Mothers And Children, Samantha H. Ransone
Theses and Dissertations (ETD)
The mother-child relationship (MCR) has received an increasing amount of attention over the last several decades regarding its effect on long-term child development. Because the quality and quantity of interactions in the MCR have been established as important predictors of the child’s development, early identification of areas in the relationship requiring support and intervention is essential for promoting positive child outcomes. Observational assessment of the mother and child is considered best practice in evaluating maternal-child interaction (MCI). The Nursing Child Assessment Teaching (NCAT) scale is an instrument that has been used to quantify the quality of interaction in the MCR …
Full-Gestational Exposure To Nicotine And Ethanol Results In Long-Term Dysregulation In The Ventral Tegmental Area, Emily Elizabeth Roguski
Full-Gestational Exposure To Nicotine And Ethanol Results In Long-Term Dysregulation In The Ventral Tegmental Area, Emily Elizabeth Roguski
Theses and Dissertations (ETD)
Nicotine is considered a gateway drug for other drugs of abuse. The majority of smokers that begin smoking in adolescence, continue into adulthood. Multiple factors have been linked with smoking initiation, including maternal smoking. Drug exposure during pregnancy has long been suspected to exert deleterious effects on the fetal brain. Concurrent use of smoking and drinking alcohol throughout pregnancy is an all too frequent occurrence in the human population especially in disadvantaged and younger women.
The present study investigated the potential contributing factors for the enhanced nicotine selfadministration as seen in offspring with gestational exposure to nicotine and ethanol (Nic+EtOH).* …
Spatial Distribution Of Obesity Among West Virginia 5th Grade Children: Analysis Of The Socioeconomic, Physical, And Personal Environment, Sherry Roper
Theses and Dissertations (ETD)
Childhood obesity defined as a body mass index (BMI) at or above the 95th percentile for children of the same age and sex, is considered an epidemic in the United States. Biology and lifestyle behaviors have been identified as important factors in the development of childhood obesity; however, researchers are beginning to place more emphasis upon the impact that continual environmental exposures have upon obesity development. Environmental risk factors associated with obesity are distributed continuously over space, yet evidence suggests that burden of risk may not be evenly dispersed across a community. West Virginia (WV), a rural Appalachian community has …
Impact Of Parent’S Hiv Status On Their Uninfected Child—A Comparative Analysis Of The Child’S Healthcare Utilization, Access And Health Outcomes, Arijit Ganguli
Impact Of Parent’S Hiv Status On Their Uninfected Child—A Comparative Analysis Of The Child’S Healthcare Utilization, Access And Health Outcomes, Arijit Ganguli
Theses and Dissertations (ETD)
With the advent of effective antiretroviral medication and increased expectancy of life span among HIV-infected individuals has lead to an increase in the at-risk population of uninfected children living with their HIV-infected parent(s). The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of parent’s HIV status on their child’s access to healthcare resources, healthcare utilization and health outcomes.
This was a cross-sectional study in which the information on the children of HIV seropositive parent(s) was collected through a face-to-face interview of the HIV-infected parents having children currently residing with them. The comparative group comprising of children of HIV seronegative …
Women’S-Perceived Quality In Postpartum Care, Maryland A. Hunter
Women’S-Perceived Quality In Postpartum Care, Maryland A. Hunter
Theses and Dissertations (ETD)
Increased competition among healthcare organizations for the obstetric consumer market has led to increased interest in women’s perceptions of their obstetric experience. This study explored women’s perceptions of quality and women’s perceptions of benefits for women who received family-centered postpartum care (FCPPC) and women who received traditional postpartum care (TPPC). The study also assessed the relationship between women’s-perceived quality (WPQ) and women’s-perceived benefit (WPB) for those receiving FCPPC and those receiving TPPC. Quality and beneficence are the two concepts of Larrabee’s (1992) model of quality operationalized in this study. The sample consisted of 60 postpartum women, 30 receiving care on …
