HIV has globally infected over 37.9 million people, of which 28.2 million (73%) are on antiretroviral treatment, and 66% of those on treatment are virally suppressed. In South Africa, however, low rate of viral suppression (47%) among people living with HIV is a major health problem that has continued to fuel HIV prevalence. A cross-sectional quantitative research design was used to investigate the relationship between treatment comorbidities and viral suppression among HIV-infected adults aged 18–49 who were diabetic, had cancer, or tuberculosis in Johannesburg. Outcomes and Impact Quarterly

Stakeholders sought to reduce the burden of preventable diabetes among adults in Utah via a “Food as Medicine” webinar series. The “Food as Medicine” webinar series sought to increase awareness of and enrollment in public diabetes programs. Evaluation results from the webinar series indicated an increase in awareness of diabetes programs and nutrition information needed to improve personal diabetes management.

Background and Objectives: Sleep disorders during pregnancy may be linked with increased risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between sleep quality and duration in pregnancy and risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).

Materials and Methods: This prospective follow-up study was performed on 240 pregnant women with a gestational age between 20 to 24 weeks, who were referred to Imam Khomeini Hospital in Sari from 2018 to 2019 for prenatal care. Physical activity (PA) is a widely accepted strategy to manage chronic diseases like type 1 diabetes; however, unique PA barriers likely result in lower PA levels among person(s) with type 1 diabetes (PWT1D), compared to person(s) without type 1 diabetes (PWOT1D). The integrated theory of health behavior change (ITHBC) (i.e., knowledge/beliefs, self-regulation, and self-management) provides a helpful framework for understanding PA and other health behaviors. This research aimed to determine differences in PA between adult PWT1D and PWOT1D, and characterize their PA-related behaviors using the ITHBC. Lemongrass is a common ingredient in Indonesian traditional herbal medicine that potently inhibits carbohydrate hydrolysis. In this study, the in vitro α-glucosidase inhibitory (AGI) activity of lemongrass was compared with its in vivo activity to retard postprandial blood glucose elevation, and the bioactive compounds responsible for these activities were observed. Both water and ethanolic extracts of lemongrass (WLG and ELG, respectively) were tested in vitro for its inhibition of the sucrose and maltose hydrolyzing activities of rat intestinal glucosidase. The effects of alpha lipoic acid and vitamin C supplementation on TGF \alpha and TGF \beta2 secretion in the testicular tissue of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats were examined by immunohistochemical methods. Rats were divided into 5 groups; group 1 (control), 2 (diabetic control), 3 (diabetes + alpha lipoic acid), 4 (diabetes + vitamin C), and 5 (diabetes + alpha lipoic acid + vitamin C). Diabetes mellitus was induced in Wistar-Albino type male rats with a single dose of streptozotocin (60 mg/kg intraperitoneally). The kinetic properties of pyruvate kinase were investigated in normal and diabetic rat liver tissue. In normal rat liver tissue, the incubation period of pyruvate kinase was 15 min and the optimum pH was 8. In diabetic rat liver tissue, the incubation period of pyruvate kinase was 10 min and the optimum pH was 7. Activation was found in normal and diabetic rat liver tissues with magnesium chloride and potassium chloride.
