Sero-Prevalence Of Contagious Ecthyma In Lambs And Humans In Kars, Turkey, Hali̇l İbrahi̇m Gökce, Oktay Genç, Gürbüz Gökçe
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The sero-prevalence of contagious ecthyma (orf) in lambs and humans was studied in the Kars region of Turkey. For this purpose, serum samples were collected from 320 lambs from 5 different districts of the Kars region. Serum samples were also collected from 100 humans at risk of infection. The serum samples were tested for the presence of antibodies to orf virus by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The results showed that 52.81% and 5% of the serum samples collected from lambs and humans, respectively, were seropositive for orf virus. These results indicate that contagious ecthyma is a prevalent infection in lambs …

Determination Of The Seroprevalence Of Leptospirosis In Cattle By Mat And Elisa In Hatay, Turkey, Özkan Aslantaş, Vi̇ldan Özdemi̇r
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Five hundred and twelve serum samples collected from randomly selected cattle of different age and sex from the towns and central villages of Hatay during April-July 2003 were tested for antibodies against 3 different Leptospira interrogans serovars (grippotyphosa, hardjo and icterohaemorrhagie) using a microscopic agglutination test (MAT) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Forty-five (8.8%) and 72 (14%) of the 512 serum samples tested were detected to be positive with MAT and ELISA, respectively. Of the 45 MAT positive serum samples, 26 (57.7%) were positive against serovar grippotyphosa, 9 (20%) were positive against serovar hardjo, 1 (0.2%) was positive against serovar …
Investigations On The Presence Of Antibodies To Avian Leukosis Virus Subgroup-J (Alv-J) In Broiler Breeders And Broilers, Nuri̇ Turan, Hüseyi̇n Yilmaz
Investigations On The Presence Of Antibodies To Avian Leukosis Virus Subgroup-J (Alv-J) In Broiler Breeders And Broilers, Nuri̇ Turan, Hüseyi̇n Yilmaz
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of antibodies to ALV-J in broilers and broiler breeders. For this, 5 broiler units and 1 broiler breeding unit in the Marmara region were visited. Seventy 4-6 -week-old chicks from the broiler units, consisting of 14 chicks from each broiler unit, were selected. Seventeen chickens from the broiler breeding unit were also selected. The chicks from the broiler units were necropsied and all internal organs were checked for the presence of tumors. Blood sera collected from all animals were analyzed for the presence of antibodies to avian leukosis virus subgroup-J …
Seroprevalence Of Neospora Caninum In Cattle In The Province Of Şanlıurfa, Murat Sevgi̇li̇, Mehtap Gül Altaş, Oktay Keski̇n
Seroprevalence Of Neospora Caninum In Cattle In The Province Of Şanlıurfa, Murat Sevgi̇li̇, Mehtap Gül Altaş, Oktay Keski̇n
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Blood samples were collected from 305 cows in the province of Şanlıurfa for determining the seroprevalence of Neospora caninum. Serum samples were analyzed for antibodies against N. caninum antigen using a commercially competitive inhibition (CI) ELISA. Antibodies to N. caninum were found in 23 of the 305 (7.5%) cow sera based on ELISA test results. With regard to seropositivity, no significant difference was observed among the origin, animal breed, and age (P > 0.05).

The Presence Of Some Anabolic Residues In Meat And Meat Products Sold In İstanbul, Bülent Nazli, Hi̇lal Çolak, Ali̇ Aydin, Hamparsun Hampikyan
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The aim of this study was to detect some anabolic (zeranol, trenbolone, diethylstilbestrol, clenbuterol) residues in meat and meat products marketed in Istanbul. In the study, a total of 60 samples (30 fresh meat and 30 meat products) were obtained from different markets and used as test materials. The anabolic residues in the sample extracts were detected by ELISA. Initially, recovery tests were performed and then residues of one or more anabolics were analyzed in all samples. Among anabolizing residues studied, zeranol was detected in all samples (100%), trenbolone was detected in 48 samples (80%) and diethylstilbestrol was detected in …
Seroprevalence Of Dirofilaria Immitis In Stray Dogs In İstanbul And İzmir, Taraneh Öncel, Gülay Vural
Seroprevalence Of Dirofilaria Immitis In Stray Dogs In İstanbul And İzmir, Taraneh Öncel, Gülay Vural
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Three hundred eighty stray dogs (232 female and 148 male) from İstanbul and İzmir were tested with antigen detecting ELISA for Dirofilaria immitis infection. Blood samples were collected between November 2002 and April 2003. D. immitis infection was found in 4 dogs tested. Seroprevalence among these dogs in İstanbul was 1.52%. Seroprevalence was the highest (2.22%) in the 3-6-year-old age group, followed by 1.02% in the 1-3-year-old age group. However, there was no significant difference between these age groups (P > 0.05). No significant difference between male and female dog groups was observed in İstanbul (P > 0.05). There was no seropositivity …

Detection Of Antibodies Produced Against Ornithobacterium Rhinotracheale And Bordetella Avium By Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay In Hens And Turkeys In Aydın Province, Turkey, Süheyla Türkyilmaz, Osman Kaya
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Respiratory diseases are very common in poultry. Bordetella avium and Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale are among the major microorganisms responsible for these diseases. The study was conducted to investigate the seroprevalence of O. rhinotracheale and B. avium in Aydın. Two hundred seventy-six chicken and 360 turkey serum samples were collected from poultry with respiratory disease suspicion in poultry enterprises around the city and samples were then examined for the presence of B. avium and O. rhinotracheale by commercial ELISA kits. The results revealed that 66.3% of chicken and 11.1% of turkey serum samples were positive for O. rhinotracheale and 29.1% of turkey …

Hydatidosis, caused by hydatid cysts, is a widespread and hazardous disease in humans and animals worldwide. The disease is very common in Turkey, causing serious economic losses. In this study, the seroprevalence of hydatidosis was determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and indirect fluorescence antibody technique (IFAT). A total of 597 serum samples were collected from cattle of various breeds and ages in 8 provinces in Eastern Turkey. Partially purified cyst fluid antigen from sheep hydatid cyst fluid was used as antigen in ELISA and whole protoscolex antigens were used in IFAT. The results showed that 63.3% and 54.9% of …
