Minque: An R Package For Analyzing Various Linear Mixed Models, Jixiang Wu Feb 2019

Minque: An R Package For Analyzing Various Linear Mixed Models, Jixiang Wu

SDSU Data Science Symposium

Linear mixed model (LMM) approaches offer much more flexibility comparing ANOVA (analysis of variance) based methods. There are three commonly used LMM approaches: maximum likelihood, restricted maximum likelihood, and minimum norm quadratic unbiased estimation. These three approaches, however, sometimes could also lead low testing power compared to ANOVA methods. Integration of resampling techniques like jackknife could help improve testing power based on both our simulation studies. In this presentation, I will introduce a R package, minque, which integrates LMM approaches and resampling techniques and demonstrate the use of this packages in various linear mixed model analyses.

Comparative Optic Nerve Head Physiology: Glaucoma Induced Retinal Ganglion Cell Apoptosis By Disruption Of The Translaminar Pressure Gradient And Reduced Neurotrophic Signaling, Cassidy Christopherson

Biology and Microbiology Graduate Students Plan B Research Projects

Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness, and the second leading vision loss neurodegenerative disease affecting millions worldwide. Glaucoma is characterized as a group of eye disorders which are initially asymptomatic but may progress to significant optic nerve head damage and vision loss with time. Early stages of glaucoma often go undetected, leading to irreversible damage to the optic nerve head prior to patients seeking medical care. Glaucoma leads to vision loss via death of retinal ganglion cells. Retinal ganglion cell apoptosis is thought to begin due to interference with the normal transmission of neurotrophic signals that arrive by …

Development And Evaluation Of Vaccine Candidates For Senecavirus A, Bishwas Sharma

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Senecavirus A (SVA) has been associated with several outbreaks of vesicular disease (VD) since 2014 in major swine-producing countries around the world. The virus causes VD that is clinically indistinguishable from foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in pigs. Currently there are no commercial vaccines available for SVA. Here, we developed a live attenuated SVA strain by mutating a wild type SVA strain SD15-26 (wt SVA). The live attenuated virus, rSVA mSacII, replicated less efficiently in cell cultures in vitro and expressed lower amounts of VP1 and VP2 capsid proteins than wt SVA. Most importantly, the rSVA mSacII virus failed to induce clinical …
