Exploring The Perceptions Of Adolescents And Young Adults With Sickle Cell Disease Regarding The Use Of A Mhealth Technology App To Support Their Transition From Pediatric To Adult Care And Adult Self-Management Practices, Jamillah Mansaray

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

Background and Purpose of the Study: The transition from pediatric to adult self- care management practices for Adolescents and Young Adults (AYAs) with SCD is a pivotal period in their life. The purpose of thisembedded mixed method study is to explore in AYA’s with SCD, …

Telehealth Acceptance And Medical Mistrust Among The Elderly Of Rural Appalachia: A Correlational Study Using The Medical Mistrust Index And Technology Acceptance Model, Victoria Hood-Wells May 2024

Telehealth Acceptance And Medical Mistrust Among The Elderly Of Rural Appalachia: A Correlational Study Using The Medical Mistrust Index And Technology Acceptance Model, Victoria Hood-Wells

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Adults aged 65 years and above have grown substantially over with past decade. However, the chance of developing multiple comorbidities only increases with age. Because elderly residents of rural Appalachia often encounter barriers to healthcare, rural nurses, providers, and policy makers must overcome physical and structural barriers, but also gain a more in-depth understanding of the personal and cultural attitudes impacting the use of new and innovative forms of healthcare delivery. With a slow and variable uptake of telehealth adoption in rural Appalachia, and in the presence of well-documented medical mistrust, this study was designed to better understand the degree …

Implementing A New Clinical Note Template To Reduce Documentation Burden At A Pediatric Organization, Nikki Blaze Apr 2024

Implementing A New Clinical Note Template To Reduce Documentation Burden At A Pediatric Organization, Nikki Blaze

Translational Projects (Open Access)

Clinical notes of a patient’s visit to a healthcare provider are necessary for patient care, reimbursement, and regulatory compliance with federal and state laws. Over time, non-standardized processes within the EHR have led to the increasing use of copy-paste to complete clinical notes, leading to irrelevant information being captured in the notes. Sinsky et al. (2020) shared that 49% of physicians' time is spent within the EHR, completing their documentation, placing orders, and reviewing the patient's chart. The documentation requirements for billing and coding created tension as clinicians sought ways to reduce the documentation burden. To reduce the documentation burden …

Knowing The Patient As A Person: Social Media Listening And Gadamerian Analysis Of Nurses’ Expressions Shared During The Covid-19 Global Health Pandemic, Janusz A. Kaleta Feb 2024

Knowing The Patient As A Person: Social Media Listening And Gadamerian Analysis Of Nurses’ Expressions Shared During The Covid-19 Global Health Pandemic, Janusz A. Kaleta

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

Background: COVID-19 has dramatically changed human-to-human interactions from in-person to the nonhuman domain of virtual space. In January 2021, every 28 seconds one person died of COVID-19 in the United States. An average of 3,100 Americans died each day during the deadliest month of the pandemic. As of January 2023, the number of COVID-19 deaths in the USA surpassed 1.000.000 people. In hospitals, human-to-human interactions were often limited to seeing one’s eyes behind the face shields, and respirator masks, and hearing a muffled voice, or sounds of the ventilators. In New York State 452 nurses died during the pandemic.

The Impact Of Telestroke Services On Diagnosis, Patient Outcomes, And Treatment, Dustin Baum Jan 2024

The Impact Of Telestroke Services On Diagnosis, Patient Outcomes, And Treatment, Dustin Baum

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

Introduction: In 2011, an estimated 20% of U.S. residents lacked timely access to stroke care. As of 2019, that number plummeted to 4% of patients. A reason for this improved access was the implementation of telestroke services. Telestroke services have utilized remote stroke specialists to help guide local emergency department physicians in reviewing imaging, diagnosing, treating, or transferring patients appropriately.

Purpose: The purpose of this research was to analyze the impact of telestroke implementation in the hospital setting. The study hypothesized the implementation of telestroke services in the hospital setting maintained an accurate stroke diagnosis, decreased inappropriate hospital transfers, reduced …

The Effectiveness And Feasibility Of Telehealth Occupational Performance Coaching With Young Adults With Intellectual Disabilities: A Case Study, Mara Sampson Jan 2024

The Effectiveness And Feasibility Of Telehealth Occupational Performance Coaching With Young Adults With Intellectual Disabilities: A Case Study, Mara Sampson

Occupational Therapy Doctorate Capstone Projects

Background: College students with intellectual disabilities (ID) experience occupational performance barriers, impeding participation. Limited evidence-based techniques are available to therapists working with this population. Telehealth Occupational Performance Coaching (OPC) has been found to be an effective treatment technique for improving occupational performance and self-determination for populations outside of college students with ID.

Purpose: The purpose of this experimental case study was to test whether participation in a telehealth OPC program for college students with ID increases occupational performance, occupational satisfaction, and self-determination.

Theoretical Framework: Self-Determination Theory and the Canadian Model of Occupational Performance and Engagement (CMOP-E) provide for the theoretical …

Considering Extended High-Frequency Audiometry As A Screening Tool For Auditory Processing Disorder, Maylee Martin Jan 2024

Considering Extended High-Frequency Audiometry As A Screening Tool For Auditory Processing Disorder, Maylee Martin

Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects

The purpose of this research project is to describe Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) and its background and etiology, signs and symptoms, and treatment options. APD is an auditory disorder that affects the central nervous system. Individuals with auditory processing disorders are able to detect sounds at normal hearing levels and pass a standard hearing test, but struggle with higher order auditory skills such as auditory discrimination, binaural processing, including understanding in the presence of background noise, and temporal processing (ASHA, 2005). A full auditory processing test battery is time consuming, and many audiologists are not skilled in administering typical APD …

Icu Nurse Mental Health: Telehealth Versus In-Person Therapy Effectiveness, Ariel Mach Jan 2024

Icu Nurse Mental Health: Telehealth Versus In-Person Therapy Effectiveness, Ariel Mach

Nursing | Senior Theses

Background Nurses working within high-stress specialties, such as Intensive Care Units (ICUs), often face a lack of resources aimed at supporting their mental health. The expectation for the nurses is to independently manage their psychological well-being based on their knowledge and educational background. However, many times it is difficult to manage persistent stress, anxiety, or depression and this could adversely affect the quality of patient care and eventually lead to burnout. Telehealth therapy has become more readily available and used since the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to two forms of treatment delivery. Currently, there is limited research on the effectiveness of …
