Every year, the UTHealth McGovern Medical School and Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center jointly organize a Quality Symposium, where oral and poster presentations spotlight the outstanding efforts in quality improvement initiatives ongoing at both institutions. Sixty-three teams dedicated to Quality Improvement were chosen to present their projects during the afternoon Poster Session. The abstracts included in this compilation offer a glimpse into the remarkable Quality Improvement endeavors showcased at the 2024 Quality Symposium.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to undertake a randomized control trial examining the effects of a 10-week footstrike transition program on tibial stress fracture risk compared to control. Material and methods: Twenty habitual rearfoot strike runners were randomly assigned to either footstrike or control groups. The footstrike group undertook a graduated 10-week program which allowed them to convert their habitual rearfoot strike pattern, whereas the control group maintained their normal training regime without any alterations to their strike pattern. Introduction: Sports Global Navigation Satellite Systems’ receivers have been providing athletes, coaches, and scientists with valuable information on movement for over two decades. As these receivers are specific measuring instruments, there is a need to determine their accuracy. This paper presents a relatively simple methodology for assessing sports receivers of this type regarding their elevation determination. Material and methods: The methodology was based on the Digital Terrain Model of Poland, a discrete representation of the topographic elevation of the land surface. What Do Extension And Public Health Educators Need To Address Substance Misuse?, Lisa Washburn, Karen Franck

The Journal of Extension

Limited organizational capacity has hindered Extension’s ability to address substance misuse in communities. To inform capacity-building efforts, we obtained Extension educator and health educator feedback on opportunities, challenges and resource needs using the Delphi technique. Opportunities included collaboration and partnerships with local entities. Stigma, inadequate resources, and limited knowledge and skills of educators were challenges. Top resource needs were updated youth curricula, funding, and clear guidance on what educators can do and what should be referred externally. Findings provide insights to educator perceptions and suggest additional training and resources needed to implement evidence-based approaches to address substance misuse.

Background: The recent legalization, in Canada, of medical assistance in dying (MAiD) places additional responsibility on undergraduate nursing educators to prepare their students for such encounters. Undergraduate students lack familiarity with death and dying, most of which takes place outside the home in health care institutions. How well these future providers identify and communicate with and care for these patients depends on their educational preparation. DNA complexes with O⁶-methylated guanine have been studied experimentally, yet questions remain concerning the carcinogenic properties of O⁶-methylguanine. Quantitative methods are often viewed as superior to qualitative methods for clinical research in communication sciences and disorders; however, quantitative methods are unable to answer questions of why or how. Qualitative methodology can be used to address research questions that seek to understand human perspectives. In Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) research, qualitative research can be used to understand student experiences and perspectives. The merit of the application of qualitative methodology in SoTL research is explored here.

However, speech-language pathologists (SLPs) often report a lack of understanding, time, and resources to implement EBP. Introduction: Physical therapy education programs adopting online teaching and learning must ensure students acquire the necessary skills for optimal professional work readiness, including appropriate assessment and feedback in the online environment. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the perceptions of Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) graduates' professional work readiness after using GoReact video assessment software at an accredited DPT education program in the United States.

Methods: Semi structured interviews were conducted with 15 DPT graduates via virtual teleconferencing software. Interview data were analyzed using descriptive and emotion coding.

The study aimed to assess the extent to which communicators at Jordanian television channels use social media platforms as an information source, and the impact of these platforms on their news and information selection priorities. Adult cancer survivors represent an important–and growing–population that could benefit from counseling services. This study employed consensual qualitative research to examine the well-being experiences of eight cancer survivors. Findings suggest a broad range of changes to individual well-being following cancer diagnosis and treatment, and indicate counseling can provide an ideal setting for processing such changes. Recommendations for counseling practice and future research are provided.

Rampant autoimmune disease has the potential to ravage the entirety of the body in a systemic fashion. Rarely, it has been reported for Takotsubo cardiomyopathy develop as a result of refractory inflammatory bowel disease. Balancing the comprehensive cares required to support both the cardiovascular system and treat the underlying autoimmune condition care present unique challenges. Here, we describe a patient who developed late-onset Takotsubo cardiomyopathy after prolonged systemic stress as a result of uncontrolled Crohn’s disease. Methods: PA program directors were interviewed about advocacy education including time allotted, when it is provided, learning objectives, source materials, teaching methods, determination of competency, and tracking of student advocacy participation after graduation.

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between perceived emotional intelligence and the reported use of cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression. We also investigated the possible effects of age on the aforementioned variables. The total sample consisted of 379 people (158 men, 220 women, 1 unreported). Across participants, 273 were young (20-39 years old) and 106 were middle-aged (40-65 years old).
