A Clinical And Microscopic Evaluation Of Plaque Removal And By The Hydrodent Brush, Soertini E. Lambri

The Hydrodent toothbrush was compared to conventional toothbrush (Lactona # 19) in its effectiveness on removing the plaque, eliminating the pocket depth, and improving the gingival tissue condition.

Forty six male and female subjects with the age range of 18 to 50 years old participated in a 5 month study with 4 week intervals. Each subject received a Hydrodent brush of soft, medium, and hard textures and a conventional toothbrush. The toothbrushes were given randomly and the subject served as his own control.

Clinical and histological evaluations were made after the use of each toothbrush. The clinical evaluation showed some …

Proper positioning is used to relieve dyspnea, edema, and fatigue in congestive heart failure patients. According to the review of literature, improved ventilation as measured by specific lung volumes and lung mechanics occurred with upright positioning in normal persons. The effects of specific changes in lung volumes related to position change in congestive heart failure patients has not been documented in literature, although various recommendations related to positioning are made. The purpose of the study was to learn whether a series of nurse-patient interactions would result in changed psychophysiologic functioning in multiple sclerosis patients.

Psychophysiologic relationships were described in the theoretical framework. Literature, reviewed in the areas of disease description and psychotherapeutic approaches to treatment, indicated that there is a high incidence of multiple sclerosis in the United States; that symptoms often include psychological alterations; that there is an emotional component to the illness; that these patients have a need for a psychotherapeutic relationship; and that psychotherapeutic approaches may have beneficial psychophysiologic effects.

This was an exploratory-descriptive study of fifty children afflicted with myelomeningocele, ages one through six, who were known to the Myelomeningocele Clinic of the Crippled Children’s Division. The study identified the degree of multiple physical, emotional, and environmental stress factors that families must be prepared to cope with. The study identified eleven factors felt to play an important role in family dynamics and how they related to the families response to their child with myelomeningocele. The factors were tested and found to be valid by the use of a pre-test on ten case records. Medical records were then obtained from …
