A Comparison Of Temporary Threshold Shifts In Dentists, Hygienists, And Dental Assistants, Sabina E. Ciaccio
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
Objective: The purpose of this study is to compare the temporary threshold shifts (TTS) in dentists, hygienists, and dental assistants. The specific aim of this study is to compare the differences in temporary shifts caused by the different dental equipment and the proximity to the equipment. The current literature does not compare the change in hearing thresholds of dental personnel.
Methods: Dentists, dental assistants, and hygienists from Hermann Dental Associates will be given a case history form to determine inclusion status for this study. Exclusion criteria will include known hearing loss and significant noise exposure the day prior. …

The Strategy For Uprighting A Deep Horizontally Impacted Mandibular Second Molar, Hui-Wen Cheng, Chia-Tze Kao, Chih-Chen Chou, Ching-Yi Tsai, Hsing-Yeh Shen, Wen Ken Tai
Taiwanese Journal of Orthodontics
An orthodontic treatment that involves uprighting of deep horizontally impacted mandibular second molars (MM2) can be a challenging procedure. This case report demonstrates an approach to correct an impacted MM2, specifically in a 21-year-old male patient who presented with a Class II division 2 malocclusion, deep bite, and bilateral maxillary second molars with buccal crossbite. Correction of the impacted MM2 had been achieved using a ramus temporary anchorage device (TAD), which applied pulling and extruding forces along with an uprighting moment. Addressing the deep bite required proclination of incisors, utilization of an intrusion arch for maxillary incisors, and implementation of …

Taiwanese Journal of Orthodontics
This article reports the orthodontic treatment using improved superelastic Ti-Ni alloy wire for a non-surgical case of skeletal Class III combined with anterior open bite, posterior crossbite, and missing the tooth 21. The treatment processes included space re-opening for the tooth 21 to facilitate replacement with prosthesis, the application of Class III elastics combined with anterior retraction and active tie-back for space closure. Meanwhile, adjustment of bracket position and wire bending were used for detailing and finishing. Interdisciplinary teamwork with orthognathic surgery and prosthetic expertise enhanced rehabilitation of the tooth 21. After a 38-month treatment, the patient was very satisfied …

Taiwanese Journal of Orthodontics
Purpose: Most load-deflection curves of NiTi wires were obtained by three-point test methods, but only few comparative studies had been reported about load-deflection behaviors of superelastic NiTi wires using three-bracket bending test mothod. The purpose of this study was to compare load-deflection behavior of different superelastic NiTi wires using two different bending test including passive self-ligating brackets.
Materials and methods: The study comprised four groups of superelastic NiTi wires: 0.014-inch ThermoNiTi, 0.014-inch CuNiTi, 0.016 x 0.025-inch ThermoNiTi and 0.016 x 0.025-inch 27°C CuNiTi. Each group had 10 pieces of wires to be tested. Then, three-point bending test and three-bracket bending …

Effects Of Full-Time Versus Part-Time Clear Aligner Wear On Periodontal Health, Pain And Compliance In Orthodontic Patients, Mohamed Adel Afify, Ahmed Medhat Eltimamy, Fouad A. El Sharaby, Hala Monir Abdelmajeed
Future Dental Journal
INTRODUCTION: Clear aligner treatment's main drawback is that the patient decides how long to wear them each day. For clear aligner therapy to be successful, compliance is essential. A poor treatment outcome would arise from noncompliant patients.
METHODS: The study was a randomized clinical trial of 2 parallel groups (7 patients per group) who underwent clear aligner orthodontic treatment having an age range of 17-24 years. A part-time group wore the aligners for 16 hours per day and a full-time group wore the aligners for 22 hours per day. The study investigated the first eight aligners of the treatment. Compliance …

Would Access Cavity Design Affect The Mechanical Behaviour Of Tooth : A Finite Element Study., Muhammad Ashraf Elhusseini, Engy Kataia, Hala Khalil
International Arab Journal of Dentistry
Two distinct access cavity designs were used to access Two simulated finite element models (FE). (Lingual (LAC) and incisal (IAC)). Three experimental FE models, including the IT model, were developed: LAC and IAC. For every simulated model, one distinct radicular preparations was carried out of size #30/.04. The incisal edge was subjected to an occlusal cycle load of 120 N. The maximum von mises stresses (VMS), maximum principal stresses (MPS), and stress distribution patterns were assessed and calculated quantitatively. It was concluded that the mandibular incisor's biomechanical behavior is significantly influenced by the size of the access design. Biomechanically the …

Early Intervention Within Orthodontics: The Sociological Aspects, Trenton Hammond
Honors Theses
Orthodontic treatment is one of the final phases of dental treatment. Its use is to provide aesthetics in some cases, yet the quality-of-life aspect that it can provide is greatly underestimated. Orthodontic care can provide proper function of teeth, improve facial structure, avoid tooth decay/loss, and improve gum health (AAO, 2024). Within this research the overarching goal is to understand the sociological aspects of families looking to start orthodontic care, what the reasons behind starting or not starting are, and providing information to the public about orthodontics that may be misunderstood or might push people away from searching for orthodontic …

Increasing Oral Health In A Midwest Elementary School: Quality Improvement Project, Dee Young
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Marginalized communities experience barriers to accessing oral healthcare in the United States (US). Due to this, many children are left to use the emergency department (ED) for dental care. The purpose of this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project was to improve oral health services access in children at one suburban Midwest elementary school. The objectives of this project were: a) to improve the efficiency of students registering in Fall 2023 to access available oral health exam services, b) to increase the number of students who receive an oral health exam compared to the number in the previous school year. …

Auriculotemporal Nerve Block For Tmj: A Systematic Review, Hasan Zia, Usmaan Al-Shehab, Ahmed Gawash, Anthony Dipalma, Dale Johnson, Musa Dolley, David F. Lo, Ryan St. John, Zain Hassam, Don D. Shamilov
Rowan-Virtua Research Day
The purpose of this systematic review is to evaluate auriculotemporal nerve blocks for temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder management. 583 articles reviewed from five databases, selected four studies for pooled analysis on visual analog scale (VAS) and maximum mouth opening (MMO) outcomes. Pooled analysis showed significant improvement in VAS (-2.27, p < 0.001) and MMO (0.94, p = 0.03) post-auriculotemporal nerve blocks for TMJ disorder. Auriculotemporal nerve blocks demonstrate potential effectiveness in TMJ disorder treatment, warranting further research on long-term effects and side effects.
