Background:

During this unprecedented time of COVID-19 pandemic, it was noticed a decline in cardiovascular cases presentation to the Emergency rooms in many countries, raising many speculations about the reasons and its ramifications?

Objectives:

1-Identify the reasons during this pandemic that refrain patients from seeking medical care and its impact on stress level and medication adherence.

2- emphasize the new role of virtual medicine.

Methods:

A quantitative descriptive cross-section survey study of 388 patients. It has been done in the cardiac outpatient department and conducted virtually through telemedicine.

Prevalence Of Cardiovascular Diseases Risk Factors Among Jordanians, Wesam Saleh Alsaud, Mohammad Tabbaa, Violet Kasabri, Maysa Suyagh, Muneer Abu Alsamen, Hussain Haddad, Anas Sheweiki

Journal of the Saudi Heart Association

Background and aims: One of the most common causes of death worldwide is cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). This study evaluated the prevalence of CVDs risk factors (RFs) and their constellation electively among the Jordanian population and assessing the most prevalent RF interplay with the rest of CVDs RFs as well as the impact of age and gender dimorphism on the frequencies of coexistence of multiple CVDs risk factors (RFs) among the Jordanian population. Methods and results: In this observational multicenter study, a total of 1449 subjects were enrolled. The mean age (± SD) was 44.35 ± 14.46 years; 796 (54.9%) of …

House Staff Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Conference (2020-)

Aims

  • Identify the percentage of female patients with prior CT scans done for noncardiac reasons who should have the diagnosis of CAD.
  • Collaborate with primary care, cardiology and breast imaging to determine how best to integrate this incidental finding into clinical practice.
  • Determine current barriers that may prevent providers from taking action on patients with new CAD.

This ARISTOPHANES analysis examined stroke/systemic embolism (SE) and major bleeding (MB) among a subgroup of nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) patients with obesity prescribed warfarin or non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) in order to inform clinical decision making. A retrospective observational study was conducted among NVAF patients who were obese and initiated apixaban, dabigatran, rivaroxaban, or warfarin from 1 January 2013–30 September 2015, with data pooled from CMS Medicare and four US commercial claims databases. Propensity score matching was completed between NOACs and against warfarin in each database, and the results were pooled. Cox models were used to evaluate the …

Biomarkers Of Inflammation In Heart Failure Patients With Reduced And Preserved Ejection Fractions: Multi-Ethnic Study Of Atherosclerosis, Michelle Lynne Stone Jan 2020

Biomarkers Of Inflammation In Heart Failure Patients With Reduced And Preserved Ejection Fractions: Multi-Ethnic Study Of Atherosclerosis, Michelle Lynne Stone

UNF Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Purpose Examine the relationships between high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and soluble tumor necrosis factor-α receptor-1 (sTNF-R1) and the cumulative risk of heart failure with reduced (HFrEF) and preserved (HFpEF) ejection fractions in a diverse, population-based sample. Methods Study sample included 6,814 adult (45-84 years of age) men and women who participated in the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis and were free of cardiovascular disease at baseline. Cox regression was used to calculate the hazard ratios (HR) associated with elevated baseline hs-CRP (> 3-10 mg/L), IL-6 (> 75th percentile) and sTNF-R1 (> 75th percentile) and risk of overall …

Effect Of Hiv Prevalence And Gender On Cardiovascular Disease Deaths, Tanjeev Ahmad Jan 2020

Effect Of Hiv Prevalence And Gender On Cardiovascular Disease Deaths, Tanjeev Ahmad

Scholarship in Medicine - All Papers

Cardiovascular disease is a widely diagnosed condition that can have many etiologies and factors that changes its prognosis. This project was aimed at investigating two potential factors that changes its prognosis: HIV status and gender. Data on HIV status was collected from NCHHSTP AtlasPlus for all US states and territories and data on cardiovascular disease deaths and corresponding gender was collected from Interactive Atlas of Heart Disease and Stroke for all US states and territories. Using a linear regression test, a correlation was tested for between HIV status and cardiovascular disease deaths for every US state/territory followed by a test …
