STRUCTURED ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND: Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is a minimally invasive procedure that is considered a good alternative to surgical aortic valve replacement (sAVR) in selected patients. Our aim is to determine the baseline, procedural characteristics and one-year clinical outcomes of our TAVI registry.
METHODS: This study is a retrospective observational analysis of a prospectively designed cohort comprising 81 consecutive patients treated at Mohammed bin Khalifa Cardiac Centre (MKCC) who were enrolled in Bahrain TAVI registry from February 2014 to February 2019. The clinical endpoints were defined according to the updated Valve Academic Research Consortium-2 (VARC-2) consensus document.

Background: Chronic pressure overload secondary to severe aortic stenosis causes impairment of left ventricular myocardial deformation and associated with adverse outcome. The present study aimed to assess the response of myocardial mechanics after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).
Methods: Assessment of myocardial mechanics by quantification of LV longitudinal, circumferential strain and rotational deformation (apical, basal rotation and twist) by 2-D Speckle-tracking echocardiography at baseline and at midterm follow-up post-TAVI. The patients were divided into 2 groups based on baseline left ventricular ejection fraction. 46 patients had preserved LV EF ≥50% preserved ejection fraction (PEF) and 34 patients had reduced left …
The Impact Of Covid-19 Pandemic On The Hospital Management Of Tavi Patients: Tavi Team Thoughts And Recommendation, Mohamed Balgaith, Ahmed Arifi, Dalia Ahmed, A. Mounir Metwally
The Impact Of Covid-19 Pandemic On The Hospital Management Of Tavi Patients: Tavi Team Thoughts And Recommendation, Mohamed Balgaith, Ahmed Arifi, Dalia Ahmed, A. Mounir Metwally
Journal of the Saudi Heart Association
The COVID-19 Pandemic has put enormous pressure on the healthcare system globally, causing many healthcare organizations all over the world to cancel or stop elective procedures in their cardiac catheterization Labs. This delay in the elective procedures with no doubt has led to a suspension of patient care primarily to those with severe aortic stenosis, which might place them at higher risk for cardiovascular complications like sudden death and heart failure.
Health Care Worker (HCW) faced with the uncertainty of contracting infections while performing procedures in patients with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 or suspected cases. This unprecedented situation is …
The Evolving Management Of Aortic Valve Disease: Trends In The Utilization And Cost Of Savr, Tavr, And Medical Therapy, Andrew Goldsweig
The Evolving Management Of Aortic Valve Disease: Trends In The Utilization And Cost Of Savr, Tavr, And Medical Therapy, Andrew Goldsweig
Theses & Dissertations
Aortic stenosis (AS) and regurgitation (AR) may be treated with surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR), transcatheter AVR (TAVR), or medical therapy (MT). Data are lacking regarding usage and cost of SAVR, TAVR, and MT for patients hospitalized with aortic valve disease. From the Nationwide Readmissions Database, we determined utilization and cost trends for SAVR, TAVR, and MT in patients with aortic valve disease admitted 2012-2016 for valve replacement, heart failure, unstable angina, non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction, or syncope. From 2012 through 2016, there was a 48.1% increase in the number of patients hospitalized for aortic valve disease annually. Overall, 19.9%, 6.7%, …
Implementation Of Peer Support And Shared Decision-Making Aids For The Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement Population, Kimberlee Einfeld
Implementation Of Peer Support And Shared Decision-Making Aids For The Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement Population, Kimberlee Einfeld
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Background: Patients at a community hospital verbalized fear, stress and anxiety about transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). Patients with aortic stenosis eligible for TAVR may experience low self-efficacy and anxiety while considering valve replacement which may lead to poor quality of life, interfere with understanding information from medical providers, and other health complications.
Methods: All patients eligible for TAVR between June and August of 2019 were invited to participate in a pilot project using peer support and use of shared decision-making (SDM) aids. Former TAVR patients were trained to be Mended Hearts TAVR peer volunteers. Participants were connected by telephone …

Medical Student Research Symposium
Background
Aortic stenosis (AS) has a prevalence of 2%. Valve replacement is the definitive treatment for AS, with transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) offering a minimally invasive alternative to surgery.
Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is the most common congenital cardiac abnormality. BAV patients are predisposed to AS, and comprise a distinct, younger TAVR patient population. Given limited prior work on inflammatory markers for TAVR risk assessment, this study sought to investigate if white blood cell count (WBC) correlates with BAV TAVR patient severity and post-TAVR outcomes.
Methods
A single-center retrospective analysis was performed on patients with BAV who underwent TAVR …
