Doctor Thorpe, of St. Louis, was elected forty-seventh president of the Association at the 1909 meeting at Birmingham, Alabama. He had served as corresponding secretary of the As­sociation from 1906 to 1908. Doctor Thorpe was the first dean of Barnes Dental College of St. Louis, which he and two other dentists organized in 1903. He was assistant secretary of the Federation Dentaire Internationale for five years, and originated the Fourth International Dental Congress, held in St. Louis in 1904.
