Relations Between Electrical Conductivity, Somatic Cell Count, California Mastitis Test And Some Quality Parameters In The Diagnosis Of Subclinical Mastitis In Dairy Cows, Güven Kaşikçi, Ömer Çeti̇n, Enver Bariş Bi̇ngöl, Mehmet Can Gündüz

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of the electrical conductivity (EC) method on the diagnosis of subclinical mastitis in dairy cows comparing with somatic cell count (SCC) and California mastitis test (CMT), and also to investigate the effect of these values on the amount of total viable bacteria, density, freezing point, and mineral substances. A total of 386 milk samples collected from quarters of 188 cows at 10 different farms were used as materials. Of the samples, 258 (66.85%) were CMT (+), 85 (22.02%) were CMT (++), and 43 (11.13%) were CMT (+++). The mean EC and SCC …

Milk and dairy products are frequently contaminated with exterotoxigenic Staphylococcus aureus, which is often involved in Staphylococcal food poisoning. The aim of the present study is to investigate the presence of classical enterotoxins of S. aureus in raw milk that was produced in Isfahan, Iran. For this purpose, 72 milk samples were collected from the bulk milk tanks of 12 milking farms during 3 different seasons (winter, spring, and summer) and tested for the presence of staphylococcal enterotoxins (SEs) using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method. Out of 72 samples studied, 15 samples (20.8%) were positive for at least 1 …

Equidae Milk Promises Substitutes For Cow And Human Breast Milk, Akbar Nikkhah

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Milk is the most nourishing natural biofluid. Milk bioactives contribute significantly to meeting nutrient requirements while minimizing the risks of cancers, traumas, and metabolic complexities. Some mothers may not be able to feed their infants breast milk for a prolonged period. Very young infants and the elderly may be intolerant to cow milk and its proteins and cholesterol. Thus, viable substitutes are needed to complement human breast milk in such cases. This review describes the most significant research findings to date and highlights the special nutritional and health properties of donkey and mare milks as promising substitutes for cow and …
