A Pilot Study To Investigate Concerns In Patients Undergoing Neck Dissection Surgery, Daniel Sundar Raj Arulananda Doss
A Pilot Study To Investigate Concerns In Patients Undergoing Neck Dissection Surgery, Daniel Sundar Raj Arulananda Doss
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Abstract:
This study investigates concerns in patients undergoing neck dissection surgery. Forty patients were recruited at Pre-surgery, Discharge and 1-month Post-surgery. The Patient Concerns Inventory - Level of Importance questionnaire (PCI-LOI), Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI), Neck Dissection Impairment Index (NDII) and the University of Washington - Quality of Life questionnaire (UWQOL) were used.
The study identified "Anxiety" at Pre-surgery and "Appearance" at Discharge and 1-month Post-surgery as the important patient concerns. Patients’ concerns were found to change over time. Support for cross-sectional convergent validity of the PCI-LOI was evidenced by significant correlations between the PCI-LOI and the UWQOL …
An Evaluation Of The Frankfort Mandibular Plane Angle Bisector (Fmab) Wits Appraisal In The Assessment Of Anteroposterior Jaw Relationships, Natalie Swoboda
An Evaluation Of The Frankfort Mandibular Plane Angle Bisector (Fmab) Wits Appraisal In The Assessment Of Anteroposterior Jaw Relationships, Natalie Swoboda
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
An accurate anteroposterior measurement of jaw relationships is essential in orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning. The purpose of this longitudinal study was to establish a new cephalometric Wits appraisal using a bisector of the mandibular plane angle, named the Frankfort Mandibular Plane Angle Bisector (FMAB). The FMAB was used to assess the sagittal jaw relationship in a sample of Class I individuals, and compare this measurement to the ANB angle and the Wits appraisal using the Maxillomandibular Bisector (MMB).
The data were collected from pre-treatment (T0), immediate post-treatment (T1) and two year post-retention (T2) lateral cephalograms of 61 male and …

Currently, there is weak evidence on the effectiveness of different rehabilitation regimens following distal radius fracture (DRF). This thesis evaluated sensory and vascular effects of exercise, thermal and ultrasound interventions that can be used in the mobilization phase (cast removal) after DRF.
Methods
- This thesis includes 3 studies. The first study compared responses to Immersion in Cold water Evaluation (ICE) in the DRF and uninjured hands. Skin blood flow (Sbf), skin temperature (temp.) and sensory perception thresholds (sPT) at 2000Hz for A –beta fibres and at 5 Hz for C fibres were obtained before, immediately after ICE and 10 min …
Image Quality Of Energy-Dependent Approaches For X-Ray Angiography, Jesse Evan Tanguay
Image Quality Of Energy-Dependent Approaches For X-Ray Angiography, Jesse Evan Tanguay

Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is an x-ray-based imaging method widely used for diagnosis and treatment of patients with vascular disease. This technique uses subtraction of images acquired before and after injection of an iodinated contrast agent to generate iodine-specific images. While it is extremely successful at imaging structures that are near-stationary over a period of several seconds, motion artifacts can result in poor image quality with uncooperative patients and DSA is rarely used for coronary applications.
Alternative methods of generating iodine-specific images with reduced motion artifacts might exploit the energy-dependence of x-ray attenuation in a patient. This could be performed …
Complex Shoulder Instability: The Role Of The Latarjet Coracoid Transfer, Ryan Degen
Complex Shoulder Instability: The Role Of The Latarjet Coracoid Transfer, Ryan Degen
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Recurrent anterior shoulder instability is a common clinical entity often requiring surgical stabilization. Recurrence rates following soft-tissue stabilization procedures are moderately high and have been attributed to associated bony defects of either the glenoid or humeral head. Complex shoulder instability, defined as instability associated with bony defects around the shoulder, is a challenging clinical problem. The Latarjet coracoid transfer has been proposed as a treatment option and its resultant stabilizing effects have been explored in this biomechanical cadaver-based study.
For both glenoid and humeral head defects, the Latarjet coracoid transfer adequately stabilized the shoulder, outperforming other procedures often utilized for …

Targeted Sirna Delivery Methods For Rnai-Based Therapies, Di Chen

RNAi has great potential in future therapeutics as it has the ability to regulating many disease-related genes. However, many barriers prevent practical applications. To overcome the barriers, the specific targeting, efficient delivery system, the validated gene and the potent siRNA sequence are all vital important. The studies throughout this thesis have been focued on examining the validation of three RNAi therapies for two different disease models: allergic contact dermatitis and melanoma. For allergic contact dermatitis, I developed and tested a novel topical delivery system for siRNAs targeting TNFα (siTNFα) and MyD88 siRNA (siMyD88). While siRNAs applied without the transdermal enhancer …
