Successful Cropping In The High Rainfall Zone Of Western Australia : Crop Research And Extension In The Zone, Narelle Hill, Heping Zhang Dr., Tim Trezise, John Young, Natahan Moyes, Laurence Carslake, Neil C. Turner Dr, Walter Anderson, Michael Poole

Bulletins 4000 -

This manual is a review of all the relevant and current information relating to cropping systems in the high rainfall cropping zone (HRZ) of Western Australia. It functions partly as the final report summarising research results and extension activities and discusses recommendations and potential outcomes of two 5-year GRDC-funded projects (DAW 673 and CSP 302), that aimed to increase the productivity of southern high rainfall cropping systems.

Scott Coastal Plain A Strategy For A Sustainable Future, Department Of Agriculture And Food, Western Australia Jun 2001

Scott Coastal Plain A Strategy For A Sustainable Future, Department Of Agriculture And Food, Western Australia

Bulletins 4000 -

The Scott Coastal Plain has significant attributes that make it an area of State and regional significance for agricultural production. The climate, availability of good quality groundwater for irrigation, and large lot sizes provide opportunities for mechanised horticultural production which other parts of the State may not have.

An estimate of the area that could be used for each agricultural land use has been developed, at a broad study area level. The figures presented in this report show that diversified production combining tree plantation and/or irrigation (cropping or hay/silage) with grazing enterprises provides for potential increases in gross margins and …

Phosphorus And Nitrate Loss From Horticulture On The Swan Coastal Plain, Neil Clifton Lantzke Aug 1997

Phosphorus And Nitrate Loss From Horticulture On The Swan Coastal Plain, Neil Clifton Lantzke

Agriculture reports

(En) The extent of nutrient loss from nine horticultural properties located on the sandy soils of the Swan Coastal Plain was examined. On three of the properties phosphorus (P) loss was measured by monitoring nutrient loads in shallow drains. On the other six properties networks of monitoring bores were installed and both P and nitrate nitrogen (NO3-N) concentrations were monitored. All of the properties except one were located on the low phosphate fixing Bassendean sands. The level of nutrient loss was depend l production areas. High to very high N03-N concentrations were found in the shallow groundwater beneath the production …

Cultivar Evaluation In High Rainfall Areas, D J. Gillespie Jan 1977

Cultivar Evaluation In High Rainfall Areas, D J. Gillespie

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

1. Trikkala Evaluation Trial 76MT3. A joint trial with D.A. Nicholas. The trial's aim is to compare the competitive ability under grazing of Trikkala and Yarloop clover on a waterlogged new land site. The competitive ability to be measured in the presence and absence of clover scorch. (Kabatiella caulivora). 2. Pasture deterioration. Field experiments. Three trials established in 1975 to determine whether various cultivation techniques could control root rot and. subsequent pasture deterioration have now concluded. 3. Lucerne productivity and persistence. 4. Effects of saline irrigation water on pasture production. During the 1976/77 irrigation season the effects on pasture production …

Lupin Trials, J Moore Jan 1977

Lupin Trials, J Moore

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

Trials in lupins this year concentrated on testing herbicide for post emergence use in lupins. Of the 20 herbicides tested 12 did not cause significant decreases in crop density and/or yield. However, weed control was often poor and the herbicide phytotoxicity tended to vary between sites. (Chapman, Badgingarra and Avondale). The Chapman and Avondale trials were not harvested because of drought. Trials in 1978 should determine if any of the herbicides tested can safely be recommended. Lupins - summary. Post emergence lupin herbicides (Badgingarra Research Station) - 77BA36. Post emergence herbicides for lupins (Chapman Research Station) - 77C18. Post emergence …

In early August the Oombulgurri community requested assistance in the following terms.

"On behalf of the Oombulgurri Community, we invite assistance in developing the grain and pasture cropping at Oombulgurri. We have experimented with peanuts, sorghum, and many varieties of vegetables. This has tested the reality of hopes to expand acreage and varieties to become self-sufficient in stock feed. The Farm and Garden Guild now needs the expertise of your services to plan a four-year programme. vie need assistance in choosing from the many options, opinions and advices available from Australia and elsewhere, for grain production, pastures, methods appropriate to …

1976 Sunflower-Safflower Irrigated Variety Trial 1976-1977, G J. Parlevliet Jan 1976

1976 Sunflower-Safflower Irrigated Variety Trial 1976-1977, G J. Parlevliet

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

In 1975/76 two varieties of sunflower, Hysun 10 and Hysun 20, as well as Safflower (Gila) were grown in a large alternative crop demonstration. Results were sufficiently good to warrant more and closer examination. This led to the present variety trial using varieties suggested by Mr. M. Poole. The aim was to evaluate six sunflower varieties and one safflower. The work was carried out in the light of reduced profitability of peas, beans and some fruit crops. This results in a number of growers having irrigation water and equipment under-employed. Other farmers are after a crop which will give them …

1976 Pasture Species Investigations - Wheatbelt, N. R. Mckeown Jan 1976

1976 Pasture Species Investigations - Wheatbelt, N. R. Mckeown

Experimental Summaries - Plant Research

Trials in Progress. Only four grazing trials were continued in 1976. The pasture species and management trial at Moora (68M023) required a disproportionate amount of available work time. About 6 man-months were spent in completing the fencing, repairing and modifying the water system and increasing the working efficiency of the experiment. Sheep were reintroduced to the trial early in June. This report summarizes the results from the trials under the following headings:- Seasonal Conditions; Grazing Trials;, Legume Grazing Management Trial, West Moora - 68M023; Comparison of Production from Cyprus Medic and Volunteer Pasture - 71LG17; Tornafield Medic, Serradella and Subterranean …
