Improving The Feeding Value Of Cotton Stalk, Wheat Straw And Rice Straw With Ozonation, Meiji Okamoto, Masaaki Hanada, R. Aoyama, R. Kim, N. Kaiga
IGC Proceedings (1997-2023)
The experiment was conducted to study the effect of ozone treatment on the feed value of cotton stalk, wheat straw and rice straw. These feeds were cut into 2 cm and 4 cm lengths, and rolled before ozonizing. The ozonizing periods were 30 min. 60min and. 120 min. The Acid Detergent Lignin (ADL) concentration of the feeds decreased with ozone treatment. Except for rice straw, the short cutting treatment (2cm) decreased the concentration of ADL and Cellulose of the ozonized cotton stalk and wheat straw. Rolling and ozone treatment were effective in decreasing the ADL concentration of cotton stalk. IVDMD …

Nourishment of gut microbiota via consumption of fermentable fiber promotes gut health and guards against metabolic syndrome. In contrast, how dietary fiber impacts type 1 diabetes is less clear.
Saprotrophic Capacity Of Endophytic Fungi, Emily L. Davis
Saprotrophic Capacity Of Endophytic Fungi, Emily L. Davis
Theses and Dissertations
Endophytic fungi inhabit the living tissue of a host plant for at least a portion of their life cycle. While some researchers have shown that various endophytic fungi participate in litter decomposition, we do not know whether such fungi are actually saprotrophic, meaning that they can obtain energy from litter. Therefore, I determined if endophytic fungi are saprotrophs using leaf litter as the energy source. All 49 tested isolates were found to be saprotrophic. To compare the saprotrophic capacities of fungi from different habitats, which produce different types of litter, a universal litter proxy needs to be used. I hypothesized …
Degumming Of Hemp Fibers Using Combined Microwave Energy And Deep Eutectic Solvent, Bulbul Ahmed
Degumming Of Hemp Fibers Using Combined Microwave Energy And Deep Eutectic Solvent, Bulbul Ahmed
LSU Master's Theses
Hemp is considered as one of the sustainable agricultural fiber materials. Degumming or surface modification of hemp bast is needed to produce single fibers for ensuing textile and industrial applications. The traditional degumming process necessitates a high amount of alkali, which causes detrimental environmental pollution. This study offers a new method to degum hemp fibers with reduced use of harmful alkali and precious water resources. In this work, hemp bast fibers were degummed by using combined microwave energy and deep eutectic solvent (DES). The properties of hemp fibers manufactured by this method were investigated and compared with the traditional alkali …
Genetic Analysis Of Cellular Adhesion In Arabidopsis Thaliana, Andrew Close Bolender
Genetic Analysis Of Cellular Adhesion In Arabidopsis Thaliana, Andrew Close Bolender
Honors Projects
Plant cell adhesion is mediated by the extracellular matrix (ECM) or cell wall and plays an important role in plant morphogenesis and development. The amount, modification, and cleavage of pectin in the cell wall are major contributors to the adhesive properties of the ECM. To gain a more complete picture of plant cell adhesion processes, Arabidopsis thaliana seedlings were previously mutagenized and screened for hypocotyl adhesion defects. Genomic sequencing of one plant exhibiting an adhesion defect, isolate 242, showed that two mutations, one in cellulose synthase (CesA1) and another in a sugar transporter, are candidates for the causative mutation. This …
