Dealing With Risks And Uncertainties In Agriculture: Implications For Central Bank Of Nigeria Interventions, Polycarp, Ishaku Mikloda, Jirgi Abigail John

Bullion

The paper discusses key areas in dealing with risks in agriculture which involves much more than dealing with risky events after they occur but through a coordinated risk management processes like establishing the context, risk identification, risk analysis and other quantitative analytical tools. The key institutional risk sharing systems like credit guarantee and insurance schemes were presented with their merits and demerits.

Using 3 Dimension Health Vegetation Index Point Clouds To Determine Hlb Infected Citrus Trees, Joseph Cerreta, Ashley Hanson, Julianna E. Martorella, Stacy Martorella Jan 2018

Using 3 Dimension Health Vegetation Index Point Clouds To Determine Hlb Infected Citrus Trees, Joseph Cerreta, Ashley Hanson, Julianna E. Martorella, Stacy Martorella

Journal of Aviation/Aerospace Education & Research

Three-dimensional NDVI point clouds can be an innovative method for detecting Huanglongbing (HLB) disease in citrus trees. In February 2018, an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) captured narrow-band multispectral images to detect healthiness variations of infected citrus trees. A 30-acre section of a citrus grove in Florida with a known HLB infection was examined to determine if three-dimensional Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) point clouds can indicate healthiness variations in HLB-infected citrus trees and how three-dimensional NDVI point clouds compared to two-dimensional NDVI reflectance maps for detecting healthiness variations in HLB-infected citrus trees. Wilcoxon Sign Rank testing compared Whole-Tree Vegetation Indices …

Agricultural Information Needs And Food Access In The Stann Creek District Of Belize, Sam E. Harris, Donna L. Graham Jan 2018

Agricultural Information Needs And Food Access In The Stann Creek District Of Belize, Sam E. Harris, Donna L. Graham

Discovery, The Student Journal of Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences

The purpose of this study was to describe agricultural information sources available to farmers and to describe food access and availability for the people of Dangriga, Stann Creek, Belize. This study used descriptive survey research methods with convenience sampling of the general public (n=22) and of farmers (n = 38) in the summer of 2017. Farmers use a variety of agricultural information sources with the extension service cited most often, followed by friends and fellow farmers. Weather, lack of information, pests, and inadequate access to capital were of primary concern for farmers. Face-to-face meetings were used most often by extension …

Ecomorphological Associations And Abundance Of Birds Across The Agricultural Landscape Of Pothwar Plateau, Pakistan, Misbah Sarwar, Iftikhar Hussain Jan 2018

Ecomorphological Associations And Abundance Of Birds Across The Agricultural Landscape Of Pothwar Plateau, Pakistan, Misbah Sarwar, Iftikhar Hussain

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Some species are exceptionally common in landscapes heavily impacted by humans, such as agricultural lands. This study was carried out over a period of 2 years (July 2012 to June 2014) in the arid agricultural landscape of Pothwar Plateau, Pakistan, to identify adaptations that govern bird distribution and abundance across 2 different cropping systems associated with differences in water availability. We used regular surveys and foraging observations to quantify species abundance, distribution, and habits. We then examined morphological correlations with ecological attributes. We found the following: (1) larger birds tended to spend more time in trees; (2) birds with small …
