There is often the risk of confusing pollen grains with helminth eggs from archaeological sites. Thousands to millions of pollen grains can be recovered from archaeological burial sediments that represent past ritual, medication and environment. Some pollen grain types can be similar to parasite eggs. Such a confusion is represented by the diagnosis of enterobiasis in ancient Iran. The authors of this study confused a joint-pine (Ephedra spp.) pollen grain with a pinworm egg. This paper describes the specific Ephedra pollen morphology that can be confused with pinworm eggs.

Globally, there are only five bumble bee (Hymenoptera: Apidae, Bombus) species that have been successfully commercialized for agriculture. The Hunt bumble bee, Bombus huntii Green, 1860, has been recognized as a suitable pollinator of crops and has a broad distribution in western North America, making it a viable candidate for commercialization. In this study, our goal was to characterize the foraging dynamics of B. huntii female workers under open field conditions. Premise of the study: Although the study of bees and their pollination services has grown immensely in recent years, the natural history of most solitary bee species is still largely unknown. The goal of this study was to contribute to the natural history dossier of a late-season wool carder bee, Anthidium placitum Cresson (Megachilidae), by establishing which plants it uses as sources of nectar and pollen as well as documenting details of its flower-handling behavior, mating behavior, and nesting biology in northwestern California.

In plants, GABA plays a critical role in sexual plant reproduction; however, GABA receptors and the associated detailed signaling mechanisms remain to be elucidated. Our experiments show that the proposed technique is reliable and convenient for probing GABA-binding proteins and could be applicable in similar projects by covalently immobilizing the free carboxylic group of GABA on magnetic beads (SiMAG-Carboxyl). New probes produced by covalently immobilizing the free carboxylic group of GABA on magnetic beads (SiMAG-Carboxyl) can obtain useful information on GABA receptors in plants.

Fire histories of mid-elevation mixed-conifer forests (MEMC) are uncommon, particularly in the eastern Cascades of Washington. As a result, fire regimes and the effects of 20th century fire suppression in these forests are not well understood. In the summer of 2014 a 7.80 meter-long sediment core was extracted from Long Lake, located approximately 45 km west of Yakima, WA, which exists in a grand fir-dominated mixed-conifer forest. Fire activity for the Long Lake watershed was reconstructed using macroscopic charcoal analysis and pollen analysis was used to reconstruct vegetation change through time. The paper presents the morphology of the flower of Iris aphylla L., which is a protected species in many European countries. The study comprises phenological observations of flowering and assessment of nectar and pollen production, and flowering and fruiting abundance. Additionally, the number of insect visitors on the flowers was monitored. The investigations of specimens originating from 4 populations in central-eastern Poland (Wyzyna Lubelska Upland) were conducted in the Botanical Garden of Maria Curie-Sklodowska University. Bee products with high bioactive properties have a very important place in human nutrition. Biochemical properties of these products such as honey, pollen, and propolis vary according to flora, season, bee race, and production methods. In this study, the biological activities of honey, bee pollen, and propolis samples from four bee races in Turkey (Apis mellifera caucasica, Apis mellifera anatoliaca, Apis mellifera syriaca, and Apis mellifera carnica) were examined.
