Turkish Journal of Botany
In this study, heavy metal (Cd, Cr, Cu, Mn, and Zn) contents of wild-growing mushrooms and soil samples collected from Bigadiç (Balıkesir) were determined. A total of 38 fungal taxa were found in the study area. Among the mushroom samples analysed, minimum and maximum metal contents were 0.11-2.58 mg kg^-1 for Cd, 1.01-19.55 mg kg^-1 for Cr, 2.61-72.44 mg kg^-1 for Cu, 1.38-47.52 mg kg^-1 for Mn, and 5.75-97.55 mg kg^-1 for Zn. For all elements, values are within the acceptable levels as reported by several researchers. Hohenbuehelia petaloides (Bull.) Schulzer had the lowest elemental composition for all elements. Metal …

Primula × Uzungolensis (Primulaceae): A New Natural Hybrid From Ne Anatolia, Sali̇h Terzi̇oğlu, Kami̇l Çoşkunçelebi̇, Mutlu Gültepe
Turkish Journal of Botany
Primula × uzungolensis Terzioğlu & Coşkunçelebi, a natural hybrid from north-eastern Anatolia, is described and illustrated with its parents. Based on its morphology and molecular characteristics, we conclude that P. × uzungolensis is a new natural hybrid between P. acaulis (L.) Hill subsp. rubra (Sm.) Greuter & Burdet and P. veris L. subsp. columnae (Ten.) Maire & Petitmengin. Maximum parsimony (MP) analysis based on nuclear ribosomal DNA (nrDNA) and chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) shows that P. veris subsp. columnae is the maternal parent of the putative hybrid, and the hybridisation between P. veris subsp. columnae and P. acaulis subsp. rubra is …

A Turkish endemic, Erodium hendrikii Alpınar, was firstly described from NE Anatolia in 1994 based on insufficient specimens. In the present study, the description of this poorly known taxon was emended by adding several macro- and micromorphological traits of its leaf and fruit observed under LM and SEM. Furthermore, it was compared with the closely related species E. malacoides (L.) L'Her based on both morphological and molecular data and a modified identification key for the Flora of Turkey was prepared. The conservation status was also re-assessed according to the IUCN threat criteria.

Turkish Journal of Botany
The role of smoke as a fire-related germination cue is well known in many parts of the world, including Mediterranean-type ecosystems; however, it has been neglected in the Mediterranean Basin (MB). We studied the germination response of 5 woody species found in the eastern MB (south-western Turkey) to smoke solutions derived from different plant species. Of the 5 species examined, 2 [Sarcopoterium spinosum (L.) Spach and Satureja thymbra L.] showed significant increments in germination percentage after smoke treatments compared to the control, while the remaining 3 [Calicotome villosa (Poir.) Link, Cistus salviifolius L., and Lavandula stoechas L.] did not. However, …

Myxomycetes Of Mustafa Kemal University Campus And Environs (Turkey), Hayri̇ Baba
Turkish Journal of Botany
In this taxonomic study, myxomycetes of Tayfur Sökmen Campus (Hatay) were collected during 2010-2011. As a result of field and laboratory studies we reported 44 species of protosteliomycetes and myxomycetes. Three of these species (Diderma deplanatum Fr., Didymium megalosporum Berk & M.A.Curtis, and Lamproderma atrosporum Meyl.) are recorded for the first time from Turkey. Lamproderma atrosporum was treated with the moist chamber cultures method in the laboratory but Didymium megalosporum and Diderma deplanatum were determined naturally. The distribution, habitat, and collection numbers of the identified species are given.
