This study was carried out at DSI-Gölköy Fish Production Station in Bolu and lasted for 350 days. Food consumption (FC) and feed conversion ratios (FCR) in Abant and rainbow trout in pond culture were compared. Abant trout larvae obtained from eggs of wild Abant trout broodstocks in Lake Abant and rainbow trout larvae obtained from eggs of the cultured broodstocks in Gölköy Fish Production Station were used in this study. Trial I involved 4 groups (2 Abant and rainbow trout experimental groups and 2 Abant and rainbow trout parallel groups). Two hundred and thirty-six larvae were in each group; a …

Effects Of Dietary Carbohydrate Level On Gastric Evacuation And Return Of Appetite In The Rainbow Trout, Oncorhynchus Mykiss, Ahmet Adem Teki̇nay, Simon John Davies

Turkish Journal of Biology

Three experimental diets containing 14.9% (low carbohydrate; LC), 31.4% (medium carbohydrate; MC) and 42.3% (high carbohydrate; HC) of extruded wheat meal were fed to rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss, to investigate the significance of carbohydrate level on the rates of gastric evacuation and return of appetite (feed intake). Gastric evacuation measurements were performed by serial slaughter and recovery of digesta whilst X-radiography was used to estimate the rates of return of appetite. Gastric evacuation data of all three treatments were best explained by square root equations. The gastric evacuation rate of the LC group was significantly different (P0.05) between the emptying …
