The Aquaculture Of Non-Endemic Species In Western Australia Silver Perch (Bidyanus Bidyanus), Tina Thorne, H. G. Brayford

Fisheries management papers

The development of commercial aquaculture of a non-endemic species such as silver perch raises a number of important issues relating to translocation. These include the potential of the introduced species to: impact on genetic diversity; introduce disease; and impact on - the natural environment; and - the biodiversity of native species. This Management Paper has been drafted in liaison with the Department of Environmental Protection in accordance with the principles of rish assessment, taking into account the above issues. It is considered that the implementation of this policy will protect the natural environment and native fish species. It will also …

Identifying Areas Of Agricultural Significance, Ian Kininmonth Aug 2000

Identifying Areas Of Agricultural Significance, Ian Kininmonth

Agriculture reports

The protection of productive agricultural land and the avoidance of land use conflicts in rural areas are important objectives of the Western Australian Government. They are reflected in the State Planning Strategy, Agriculture Western Australia’s strategic plan, ‘Focus on the Future’ and draft Statement of Planning Policy (SPP) No. 11 – Agricultural and Rural Land Use Planning Policy. However, agricultural land is required for a variety of purposes and so it is important that agriculture is able to identify those areas which are irreplaceable in terms of existing and future production and those areas which may be used for other …

Aquaculture Plan For The Recherche Archipelago, Fisheries Western Australia. Jun 2000

Aquaculture Plan For The Recherche Archipelago, Fisheries Western Australia.

Fisheries management papers

Land supply and land cost for aquaculture may become a limiting factor in the foreseeable future. At present, adequate appropriately zoned land is available at reasonable cost. The most prospective land for aquaculture in or near Esperance is where suitable zoned land occurs over saline ground water aquifers or adjacent to the coast. Careful site selection would be necessary to ensure water supply, waste water disposal, services and operational space can be achieved at reasonable cost.

Wa Agricultural Growth And The State Economy Research Report Volume 2, Nazrul Islam, Helal Ahammad

Research Reports

The impact of state and national policies on the Western Australian (WA) agriculture can not be assessed realistically unless the distinctive characteristics of WA agriculture are taken into account. The objective of this paper is to develop and document an economic information base for WA agriculture by identifying and exploring the main characteristics of its production systems. The study reveals that agriculture plays a more important role in WA than in the rest of Australia (ROA). The share of WA in the national gross value of agricultural production and exports is much higher than her share in the national gross …

Protecting And Sharing Western Australia's Coastal Fish Resources. The Path To Integrated Management., Fisheries Western Australia Feb 2000

Protecting And Sharing Western Australia's Coastal Fish Resources. The Path To Integrated Management., Fisheries Western Australia

Fisheries management papers

The fisheries management framework of the 21st Century must not only be able to manage the level of exploitation by commercial and recreational fisheries, but also provide an agreed basis and process for changes in the way fish and aquatic resources are used and shared by this community. There is a clear need to counter inevitable pressure on stocks from the impact of a growing population, increasing coastal development and the demands of various key user groups. Unless we are proactive in dealing with the growing exploitation of fisheries along our State’s vast 12,000km coastline, it will be difficult to …

Stocking Rate Guidelines For Rural Small Holdings, Swan Coastal Plain And Darling Scarp And Surrounds, Western Australia, Dennis Van Gool, Ken Angell, Lindsay Stephens Feb 2000

Stocking Rate Guidelines For Rural Small Holdings, Swan Coastal Plain And Darling Scarp And Surrounds, Western Australia, Dennis Van Gool, Ken Angell, Lindsay Stephens

Agriculture reports

Small rural holdings are often owned by people who want to pursue a semi-rural lifestyle but who are inexperienced in land management issues. This can result in landholders stocking their properties with animals at rates higher than the land resources can sustain, leading to degradation problems such as soil erosion, water pollution and damage to vegetation. This document provides information and guidelines to help planners, developers, local authorities and land owners determine the base stocking rates for rural small holdings on the Swan Coastal Plain and Darling Scarp and immediate surrounds. The advice utilises Agriculture Western Australia’s rural stocking rate …

Asian Wheat Market And Food Experience For Growers : A Final Report For The Grains Research And Development Corporation Project Daw637, Ben Curtis

Research Reports

This project was designed to set up a course which would allow Australian wheat growers and their partners to get closer to the markets that buy their wheat in order to learn more about some of the quality issues that affect the end products. This form of education should assist the wheat industry to move with these changing markets to lean more about them and build some supply chain linkages. This will also help improve grower responsiveness to changing market needs and increase the production of quality wheat.
