An Economic Analysis Of Some Aspects Of Medical Service Availability In Northwest South Dakota, Leland G. Bierman Aug 1969

An Economic Analysis Of Some Aspects Of Medical Service Availability In Northwest South Dakota, Leland G. Bierman

Agricultural Experiment Station Agricultural Economics Pamphlets (1941-1991)

A community which has its own hospital and doctor is benefited in many ways. First, the people in the community are near medical care in times of emergency. Second, hospital patients from the community are near family and friends when receiving care. Third, a community may be benefited economically by the presence of a hospital facility because additional jobs are provided, and people from the surrounding area are given increased incentive to come to the town in purchasing other goods. Also, adequate medical services are of importance in attracting new industry into a town. The trend today, however, is away …

Determining Market Areas For Livestock Grazing, Robert G. Williams May 1969

Determining Market Areas For Livestock Grazing, Robert G. Williams

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Differentials between rancher costs of operating on private and public range were studied in an attempt to define market areas for livestock grazing in western United States.

The problem of defining market areas is basically a problem of grouping differentials between rancher costs of grazing on private leased range and National Forests that are reasonably homogeneous and statistically testing differences among means of the different groups.

Several methods were used to group forests with reasonably uniform differentials into market areas for cattle. A grouping of forests which have the same average grazing fee does not, however, yield market areas which …

An Analysis Of Forest Service Grazing Statistics And A Case Study Of Public Grazing In Rich County, Utah, Barton F. Bailey May 1969

An Analysis Of Forest Service Grazing Statistics And A Case Study Of Public Grazing In Rich County, Utah, Barton F. Bailey

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Forest Service grazing permits for cattle and sheep were analyzed. A livestock and land resource summary was completed for each non-temporary permit reported on the 98 forests in the twelve western states.

The economic feasibility of private rangeland improvements to offset public land grazing in Rich County, Utah, was analyzed in the second section of this thesis. The internal rate of return for various projects was computed. The internal rate of return was used as an indicator of the economic feasibility to ranchers. These estimates were made on a county basis and do not apply to any particular ranch situation.

Business Development In Rural Communities : Highlights Of Papers Presented : Seventh Agri-Business Day, South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station, Department Of Economics, South Dakota State University Mar 1969

Business Development In Rural Communities : Highlights Of Papers Presented : Seventh Agri-Business Day, South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station, Department Of Economics, South Dakota State University

Agricultural Experiment Station Agricultural Economics Pamphlets (1941-1991)

Agri-Business Day Programs in the past have been devoted to such objectives as explaining characteristics of our rural economy, managing change in the livestock industry and emphasizing the need for economic development. Our primary interest was and continued to be directed toward ways that the economic wellbeing of those living in our rural economy might be improved. We recognize, however, that the welfare of rural families does not depend entirely on their ability to produce and market products grown on the land. It is also tied to the strength of the total economy. The strength of the total economy in …

Some Corporations That Own Farm And Ranch Land In South Dakota, Russell L. Berry Jan 1969

Some Corporations That Own Farm And Ranch Land In South Dakota, Russell L. Berry

Agricultural Experiment Station Agricultural Economics Pamphlets (1941-1991)

Concern has developed about large out-of-state corporations that own agricultural land in South Dakota. Fears that such corporations may destroy family farms are often expressed. As a result legislation has been proposed which would prohibit such corporations from farming unless 51 percent of stock is owned by South Dakotans. Do present out-of-state corporations justify such fears? A survey recently made indicates that most out-of-state corporations lease their land to independent farmers. Those few that directly manage their land are not much if any different from the home-grown kind. Most appear to be held and operated by families. The survey was …

The Effect Of A Large Reservoir On Local Government Revenue And Expenditure, Clyde T. Bates Jan 1969

The Effect Of A Large Reservoir On Local Government Revenue And Expenditure, Clyde T. Bates

KWRRI Research Reports

Development of a large multi-purpose reservoir within the area of their jurisdiction may affect property ta.x revenue and expenditure of county governments and school districts. Privately owned land sold to a federally sponsored reservoir is not subject to property taxes because of the doctrine of intergovernmental immunity. Local officials often assume that this loss of assessment will reduce their tax revenue and thereby their fiscal ability to provide an acceptable level of government services. They may also expect the influx of construction workers or the disruption of existing facilities to increase the cost of providing these services. The study approaches …
