Overtraining In Two-Cue Discrimination Learning In Rats, Douglas Neil

The present experiment was designed to produce additional experimental evidence on the effects of overtraining on attention in a two-cue discrimination problem. It was the contention of the present study that Sutherland and Holgate's failure to obtain equal mastery of cues was due to insufficient training. If training had been prolonged far enough equal mastery of cues should result. That is, if Ss were overtrained on a two-cue discrimination problem and tested for level of performance on each cue separately at the end of overtraining Ss would perform at near 100% on the test.

Fern classification is in a state of flux, the largest area of disagreement being the family Polypodiaceae (Wagner, 1959). This polyphyletic group (Eame, 1936) has been divided by several prominet workers into many families. Ching (1940) recognized thirty-two, Holttum (1947) five, and Copeland (1947) nine families. Munz and Keck (1959) divided the old famliy Polypodiaceae, as represented by the ferns of California, into five families. The classification of Munz and Keck is the most recent treatment in this paper. To date there has been only on major study concerned with parasites of freshwater fishes of California. E. C. Haderlie (1953) summarized investigations up to that year and conducted a general survey of the monogenetic and digenetic trematodes, cestodes, nematodes, acanthocephalans, copepods, and hirudinians of fishes of Northern California. From 2010 fishes representing 36 species of 11 families examined over a three-year period, he obtained a total of 59 species of helminth parasites, copepods, and hirudinians, which include 20 species of digenea and 16 species of cestodes. Within the few years following the publications of the first studies on reptilian thermoregulation (Mosauer, 1936; Attsatt, 1939; Cowles and Bogert, 1944; and Strelnidov, 1944) there has been an increasing number of investigations concerned with the mechanisms that underlie this phenomenon. Many studies have demonstrated that heliothermic lizards maintain a relatively constant body temperature during per- iods of diurnal and seasonal activity. Much of this regulation is dependent upon behavior. An extensive review of thermoregulation in both lizards and snakes has been compiled by St. Girons and St. Girona (1956).
