Implementing Food Science-Based Instruction In Career Technical Education Courses, Jasmine D. Hendrix
Implementing Food Science-Based Instruction In Career Technical Education Courses, Jasmine D. Hendrix
Theses and Dissertations
Students are exposed to food concepts in agriculture-based career technical education (CTE) courses which provide a gateway for students to become more aware of food science career pathways. Professional development for Mississippi (MS) CTE teachers is needed to effectively implement food science-based instruction since there is not a food science curriculum framework adopted in MS. The objective of this study was to assess a food science professional development training for MS CTE teachers that would increase their self-perceived knowledge of food science, self-perceived ability to conduct food science skills, and their self-efficacy to implement food science-based instruction. Thirty-one teachers participated …
The Relationship Between Knowledge, Attitudes, And Behaviors Regarding Eco-Justice Issues Among Middle And High School Students In Eco-Schools In Puerto Rico, Elsie Aquino
Wayne State University Dissertations
The conservation, preservation, and protection of the environment are responsibilities that must be globally shared by human beings to “meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (World Commission on Environment and Development (WCED, 1987, p. 43). When citizens acquire the knowledge and skills needed to become agents of change, the lack of interconnectedness – a relationship to nature as one of dominion and control – that presently exists between humans and nature might subside (Winograd, 2016). Through the re-orientation of the present educational system and the development of curricula …
Parental Satisfaction And Teacher Perspectives On Inclusive Education Of Students With Asperger Syndrome: An Educational Tool, Hannah Warren
Parental Satisfaction And Teacher Perspectives On Inclusive Education Of Students With Asperger Syndrome: An Educational Tool, Hannah Warren
Theses and Dissertations
Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate parental satisfaction and anxiety regarding the high school educational experiences of their child with a previous diagnosis of Asperger syndrome (AS), as well as educators' understanding of the diagnosis and what information they deemed important to know about the student. The goal of this study was to develop an educational tool that would aid in initiating communication between parents of a student with AS, or with a new diagnosis of high-functioning autism (HFA), and their teachers. This would be an additional resource of use to pediatric genetic counselors that frequently see families regarding a …

Preservice Candidates' Rating Of Effectiveness In Agricultural Education Through Structured Communication With Cooperating Teachers, Christopher Lee Hunt
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The relationship between cooperating teacher and student has been found as one of the key elements that affect the overall teaching efficacy of student teachers and their decision to enter the teaching field after graduation (Edgar, 2007; Edgar, Roberts, & Murphy, 2011,2008; Kasperbauer et al., 2007a; Roberts, Greiman, Murphy, Ricketts, Harlin, & Briers 2009; Roberts, Harlin, & Briers, 2007, Roberts, Harlin, & Ricketts, 2006; Roberts Mowen, Edgar, Harlin & Briers, 2007, Stripling, Ricketts, Roberts & Harlin, 2008; Wolf, 2011; Wolf et al., 2010). Therefore, determining impacts towards teaching efficacy during the student teaching experience could play a vital role in …
Fresh Water Ecology Unit For Secondary Education Science Courses, Eric L. Hyer
Fresh Water Ecology Unit For Secondary Education Science Courses, Eric L. Hyer
Theses and Dissertations
Science means “to know", a process for gaining knowledge and an understanding of the natural world. Students need to be involved in active learning. In other words, they must do science, not just hear about it. Good science encourages students to gain knowledge by doing science: observing, questioning, exploring, making and testing hypotheses, comparing predictions, evaluating data, and communicating conclusions. This unit plan is designed to incorporate the components of fresh water, ecology, water quality, and a class-wide science project. Each lesson addresses selected standards from the state core curriculum and has specific objectives that are tied to the learning …

Adequacy Of The High School Science Vocabulary In Biology In Filling The Needs For Normal Reading Of Popular Magazines, Clarence H. Stinemetze
Master's Theses
The problem as implied in the title of this report has been an attempt to evaluate in terms of the vocabulary of the high school biology textbooks adopted by the State of Kansas. An Analytic Comparative Study Of Certain Biology Textbooks Used At Secondary School Level, Joseph E. Rankin
An Analytic Comparative Study Of Certain Biology Textbooks Used At Secondary School Level, Joseph E. Rankin
Master's Theses
Biology is the science of life and therefore deserves every consideration in the high school curriculum. The world today is making an extensive and intelligent use of biology in solving problems of personal and social significance. Scientists have discovered that certain phases of the subject are more important to man's welfare than others. For this reason it is essential that biology be presented to our high school students not as isolated facts, but in relation to the problem of living. Through this science of living things, the student can gain a healthy respect for facts and for conclusions based on …
A Comparative Study Of Directed Laboratory And Lecture Demonstration As Methods Of Instruction In Teaching Botany To High School Students, M. Lucida Vorndran
A Comparative Study Of Directed Laboratory And Lecture Demonstration As Methods Of Instruction In Teaching Botany To High School Students, M. Lucida Vorndran
Master's Theses
A controlled investigation of green plants as the most important food factories of the world has been made in order to contribute more information upon the issue. Stated more specifically, the problems of this experimental study were the following: 1. To determine which of the two methods, if either, is superior as a procedure for learning. 2. To determine whether laboratory experiments are more effective than lecture-demonstration in training students to think clearly, to correlate and retain facts; and finally, to draw logical conclusions. 3. To determine, if possible, which method stimulated the greater amount of pupil interest.

The Organization Of Content For Agricultural Teaching In Western Kansas High Schools, Leo Virgil Wedel
The Organization Of Content For Agricultural Teaching In Western Kansas High Schools, Leo Virgil Wedel
Master's Theses
The specific problem of this investigation pertains to, “The Organization of Content for Agricultural Teaching in Western Kansas High Schools." The study deals with the course of instruction in all high schools in the western half of the state teaching agriculture, except those teaching vocational agriculture. Schools teaching vocational agriculture are organized under the Smith-Hughes law. A school teaching agriculture organized under this law has a definitely prescribed course of study which does not apply to non-vocational schools. Thus, the necessity for the organization of a course of study for this latter type of school. This is a course that …
The Botany Laboratory, Saylor John Neher
The Botany Laboratory, Saylor John Neher
Master's Theses
In the present work it has been my purpose to present a descriptive list of laboratory exercises in botany which is predictable and useable under the existing conditions of the average small high school of western Kansas. To be more specific these exercises may be used by a teacher without special training in botany, in a crowded curriculum, and with little laboratory equipment. Most of the apparatus needed may be improvised by the pupil, and the plants called for are common in any community in the western half of Kansas.
